The Shadow Friend

Twenty-five years ago, troubled teenager Charlie Crabtree committed a shocking and unprovoked murder. On the darkest corners of the internet, plenty of people still remember what happened- Charlie's crime has attracted a dark infamy, inspiring more than one copycat. Paul Adams can remember the case too - Charlie and his victims were his friends. Paul left town as soon as he could, and he's never gone back. But then his mother, old and senile, takes a turn for the worse. Though every inch of him resists, it's time to come home. It's not long before things start to go wrong. In the news, Paul learns another copycat has struck. His mother is distressed, insistent that there's something in the house. Someone is following him. Which reminds him of the most unsettling thing about that awful day twenty-five years ago. It wasn't just the murder. It was the fact that afterwards, Charlie Crabtree was never seen again . . .

#sundayfunday. @ozma.of.oz
1: yes very much so but it doesn't happen often lately.
2: the one above had some great twists.
3: this was tricky. Karin Slaughter does with her books you never know what may happen or where she'll take the story.

This was a fascinating read with some very clever twists that take you by surprise. The plot is a slow burn but it fits with the story, jumping from the past to present. Paul is an interesting main character, you never learn a lot about him and yet you feel for him. The ending was clever and I liked how all the threads of the story came together. 4* 16pts for #MistletoeManiacs #WinterGames2021

This started off well but it was a bit underwhelming to be fair. It couldn't make its mind up if it wanted to be a creepy thriller or a supernatural horror and didn't manage to be either. All the characters were so bland and dull, it was unfortunately a rather boring read. 2⭐

💛💛💛 I think I had big expectations because I really enjoyed whisperman, but unfortunately it just didnt quite deliver for me. I found the plot quite weak, and a bit all over the place.

Oh my God! This was rather creepy, but good! Paul goes back to the town where he grew up because his mother is dying. He left it because of a murder of a child. It also has weird dream sequences and it goes to back and forth from present day to 25 years ago when the murder happened. I had no clue to the murderer or the twists. #crimebooks

Cathythoughts Oh very good. Is this the author of Whisper Man ? Stacking 4y

I am reading both books at the moment, but can safely say that Shadow Friend is definitely a creepy read. Just right for Halloween! #currentlyreading
