Femminismo per il 99%
Femminismo per il 99%: Un manifesto | Nancy Fraser, Tithi Bhattacharya, Cinzia Arruzza
16 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 30 to read

This tiny book was interesting & thought provoking. I agreed with some points and disagreed on others but ultimately, it gave me s new perspective on feminism and what it means to see, make space for, and protect other women. It discusses Communism at length and positively and that was a new experience for me. I recommend this book for info seekers who like to think outside the box and don‘t have to completely agree with an author.

Yeah! I really enjoyed this takedown of liberal feminism. This is a fantastic explanation of why liberal feminism fails us, and how it plays into capitalism and perpetuates oppression, even when it seems "progressive." My only complaint is the authors still often defaulted to saying "women" instead of just "people" even while, at many other times, stressing that feminism must be inclusive of trans and nonbinary folks. Still a thoughtful read.

#bookhaul from BookWoman in Austin! I could have spent so much here but I managed to just get three. That‘s a book of Ursula Leguin essays and There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyoncé underneath. It took me SO long to narrow down to these I wanted to buy the whole shop

The sad truth even if a woman crashes that presidential glass ceiling, some of the policies and practices of capitalism are grinding most of humanity down. This is rough to read ,I understand the concepts .Feeling like the 1% hope we never figure out that many are fleeing their countries because of the conditions greed & corporate excess have created then denied, are crushing society & women most of all.

Sorry about the earlier spamming, I was at work with no WiFi so unable to post as I came to the passages I just posted. This book has a lot inside it, kinda preaching to the converted with me and I‘m not sure a complete beginner (ie that one relative you really disagree with) would get all the concepts inside. But it talks about how a lot of issues are interconnected such as climate justice, racism and other injustices are all linked.

Weaponxgirl This is a great little book to think about afterwards and what our collective goals should be. Thanks to @batsy for bringing it to my attention. 6y
Weaponxgirl It‘s also available on #scribd in the uk for anyone who has it. 6y

batsy Great, succinct review. With me too it was preaching to the converted, but I just hope this book finds its audience and makes people think. Glad you found it worthwhile! 6y
Weaponxgirl @batsy thanks so much for bringing it to may attention. I also really hope it finds its audience as I think with things such as climate change we have now missed the window where we could have done things gradually. We need big change now and unfortunately we have people in power who aren‘t willing to make a stand so it‘s up to us to push the agenda to the front as a matter of both survival and human rights. 6y
batsy I absolutely agree. We're headed towards a pretty bad place and it's terrifying. 6y

I cannot stand a bigot who uses this as their excuse for why they are islamaphobic! Throw in them also suddenly caring about working class girls being raped when it‘s a Muslim who did it when you know for a fact they don‘t care about these issues at any other time. (For any Americans who may not know I am talking about a horrific case of sexual exploitation that took place in Rotherham in the uk and has been used by right wing assholes)

Emilymdxn Yes to everything you said SO much. I feel sick to my stomach when I hear people talk about some of this shit 6y
Weaponxgirl @Emilymdxn it‘s done in such bad faith! Do we really think that young girls were never sexually exploited before? It‘s a problem that needs to be addressed and something I feel strongly about but I will not stand by and be quiet when someone uses it as a front for racism or bigotry 6y

This has always bothered me about a certain type of mainstream lean in feminism.
Getting women to the top is great except the system is wrong. I do have a chip on my shoulder about the fact that my job is coded as traditionally feminine and is chronically underpaid and people think of it as “unskilled”.
This needs to change!

Emilymdxn Damn straight! Hard to root for women becoming tech CEOs when those same women don‘t support rights and raises for ‘less skilled‘ nurses and primary school teachers. I know which group the country would stop functioning without 😒😒😒 6y
Weaponxgirl @Emilymdxn yes! (Sorry I‘m going to rant) I‘ve had years of financial insecurity because it‘s really hard to find a job in my sector that pays enough to live on. Especially as a single woman. I do my job because I love it but that shouldn‘t be assumed that‘s enough. I would also like some security too. Nothing fancy just more than platitudes from politicians about how my job is important to society. 6y
Emilymdxn I feel so strongly about it too, I‘m just starting out in a career I feel incredibly passionate about but I also have to make peace with always making way less than all my friends, family and partner with no possibility of ever being well paid. 6y
Weaponxgirl @Emilymdxn from where I am I say stick with it. Even though it can be stressful I‘ve found it much better for my mental health than going into a job day in day out to a job that hurts your soul. Before this job I‘ve had days where I literally had panic attacks and been unable to go in because I hated a job so much. I have the odd day now where I have a general I don‘t want to go work feeling but never a stomach churning dread and for me thats 6y
Weaponxgirl @Emilymdxn worth it. 6y

A fiery, necessary read about feminism needing to start from the bottom. A lot of this jibes with my own beliefs & politics so it's preaching to the converted, but I love the righteously angry, take-no-prisoners style of this manifesto. It's easy to say that one is anti-racist, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, & a feminist, but to put it into practice when we're all hemmed in by circumstances & trying to survive is something else. Essential ✊🏽
