This was a fun read, but it felt more like fan-fiction than an original novel. The build-up was good, but I rolled my eyes when they revealed the “big bad.” And the fight at the end felt like it was inspired by the battle at the end of the Harry Potter series.

An excellent, flawless co-mingling of the worlds of Sherlock Holmes and Clive Barker's The Hellbound Heart (or the Hellraiser franchise).

Kane does an amazing job of blending the mystery of the Lament Configuration into the great detective's world, but Kane also does much more than that, by taking Holmes' "obsession" with logic and crime-solving and making it truly torturous and horrifying in both the physical and psychological.

I wavered between a pick and so-so with this book. It didn't really work for me as a Hellraiser story, not nearly as bloody or gruesome as expected, nor as a traditional Sherlock Holmes story. The spectacular ending battle pushing it over to a pick. 3 💥💥💥 1/2 out of 5

Sherlock vs Pinhead? Well, I'm sold!

This book was a lot of fun! Kane pulled from the Hellraiser movies and books to leave little nuggets of the mythos scattered throughout. It made me smile every time I came across a reference to the franchise that I recognized. He blended Barker's and Doyle's worlds pretty seamlessly to create a thrilling story. I've found a new author to watch for! (FYI, I was totally picturing Cumberbatch and Freeman as Holmes and Watson while reading. 😄)

I'm about 30 pages into my first book for the #bookisholympics challenge and already enjoying it! Bonus, the intro was written by Barbie Wilde, the female Cenobite in Hellraiser II. Within a 3-page intro, she added 2 books to my TBR - The Hellraiser Films and Their Legacy (by Paul Kane) and Hellbound Hearts, an anthology of short stories set in the Hellraiser world, edited by Paul Kane and Marie O'Regan, in which Wilde has her own short story!

Back from my #24in48 readathon break. Did a little (ok, A LOT) of book shopping despite telling myself I wouldn't buy any books over the weekend. The stack on the left are books from B&N. The stack on the right and the Dorbz/Funko Pops are from the Hastings' going out of business sale. Really sad to see them go. I'm very excited/curious about the book I tagged. I love the Hellraiser movies and Sherlock. I'm interested in reading the mash-up 😄
