Myrtles Plantation: The True Story of America's Most Haunted House
Myrtles Plantation: The True Story of America's Most Haunted House | Frances Kermeen
8 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
Broken clocks tick...beds rise in the air...paintings fly across the room...locked doors fling open...crystal chandeliers shake...heavy footsteps and eerie piano music sound in the dead of night-and that's just for starters. Welcome to the Myrtles Long recognized as America's most haunted house both by parapsychologists and the media, The Myrtles is a twenty-eight-room Louisiana bed-and-breakfast once owned by Frances Kermeen. In this spine-tingling chronicle, Frances tells the story of how she was drawn to this former plantation mansion, its bone-chilling history, and the incredible encounters of the ghostly kind she had that forever changed her beliefs about the supernatural-and just may change yours. Along with the sometimes terrifying, sometimes benevolent hauntings, her years at The Myrtles also brought death threats from the Ku Klux Klan, the tragic loss of friends, a catastrophic betrayal, and other personal challenges. They would all converge with the paranormal phenomena around her into one cataclysmic event...

My husband and I started our anniversary weekend by doing some ghost hunting at Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana. It is a beautiful, peaceful place, but I did not get much sleep. 👻

Prairiegirl_reading Happy anniversary! That looks amazing!! 7mo
CBee My hometown, Vicksburg MS, has some good ghost hunting spots if you‘re ever interested 👻 😬 7mo
Mollyanna Happy Anniversary! Did you stay at Myrtle‘s? I didn‘t realize you could stay there. Seen it on multiple ghost shows… enjoy your stay, hopefully you can get some sleep on the second night. 7mo

Morr_Books @CBee I think I would enjoy a trip to Vicksburg! 7mo
Morr_Books @Mollyanna Yeah. There is actually a B&B attached to Myrtles if you don't want to stay in the creepy mansion, which houses 5 guest bedrooms. We stayed one night, which was enough for my delicate nerves. 7mo

#ScarathlonBucketList Bruch at the Myrtles Plantation. My favorite local haunted house also has fabulous apple cinnamon French toast, bacon and bottomless mimosas.
From top to bottom: the front of the Myrtles, the restaurant, breakfast and my new voodoo doll 👻

IndoorDame That voodoo doll is epic! 2y

About 20 mins from my house is The Myrtles Plantation, one of the most #haunted houses in the nation. Kermeen's book is a really good account of the history both historical and supernatural. Also The Myrtles ghost tour is a fun way to spend Halloween 👻

BeansPage OMG I want to go there SO BAD!!! I've been wanting to make a pilgrimage there for years! 🧟‍♀️ 5y
Tamra Not ghost related, but your post reminded me that yesterday I listened to a very interesting NPR broadcast about the broad differences in the approaches re: tour information presented in relation to slavery at various plantation houses. 5y

As many times as I have been to the Myrtles, I have never stayed the night. My sister-in-law and cousin convinced me. So I am off to the Myrtles today to spend a night with the ghosts! With me luck, pray for me or whatever is your thing! 😱👻💀

SledgeReader @Slajaunie Kick some ghost booty!! 6y
VioletMoonBooks I slept at the Myrtles a couple of years ago and when I was in bed it felt like someone was tucking me in 6y

Slajaunie I have had some experiences like that when I have visited in the past. I am hoping to have lots of fun! 6y
BookwormAHN I live about 30 minutes from The Mrytles. I been there a bunch but never spent the night. I've always wanted to though. Have fun, keep us posted 😸 6y
Slajaunie @BookwormAHN I certainly will! 6y
Clare-Dragonfly Why have I never heard of this?!😱👻😄 6y
Slajaunie @Clare-Dragonfly This is America‘s MOST haunted house! 6y
Slajaunie No ghosts yet but all the vases and things in our room were off center. I fixed it. We shall see if the ghosts like it. 6y
Slajaunie @SledgeReader @VioletMoonBooks @overtheedge @BookwormAHN @Clare-Dragonfly so we had access to the main entry with the haunted mirror all night. We stayed there most of the night. The chandelier kept dimming and went out twice. I had to turn it back on. I asked the staff if it was an electrical problem and they said no. During today‘s tour it did not dim at all. In the lady‘s parlor the chandelier would shake and jump the stop on and off. 6y
BookwormAHN Cool 😸 6y

This was just the book I needed to read. Not too heavy. Really creepy stories about a real haunted place. Now if I can just convince someone to take a road trip down there with me. 👻

So I didn't quite make 24 hours (more like 20), but I'm working tonight so I did have to get some sleep. #24in48 has been awesome and it's been fun to participate in such a bookish environment like #litsy. Reading a spooky ghost story to round out my evening.
