A Cursed Inheritance
A Cursed Inheritance: Number 9 in series | Kate Ellis
8 posts | 4 read | 3 to read
The brutal massacre of the Harford family at Potwoolstan Hall in Devon in 1985 shocked the country and passed into local folklore. And when a journalist researching the case is murdered twenty years later, the horror is reawakened. Sixteenth century Potwoolstan Hall, now a New Age healing centre, is reputed to be cursed because of the crimes of its builder, and it seems that inheritance of evil lives on as DI Wesley Peterson is faced with his most disturbing case yet. As more people die violently, Wesley needs to discover why a young woman has transformed a dolls house into a miniature reconstruction of the massacre scene. And could the solution to his case lie across the Atlantic Ocean, in the ruined remains of an early English settlement in Virginia USA? When the truth is finally revealed, it turns out to be as horrifying as it is dangerous...

The mass murder at Potwoolstan Hall in 1985 has a lot of characters that have changed their name in this modern day mystery which was never solved in 1985.

EadieB The characters are a bit confusing and hard to keep straight. Wesley and Pam's marriage is going through a tough period as she is taking care of 2 children by herself and her husband is always at work. I'm hoping their marriage gets straighten out and Wesley and Pam stay together. If you like murder with lots of characters then you will love this book. I'm looking forward to the next installment of this Wesley Peterson book! 3mo

#20in4 #readathon

Read for 3 hours late afternoon and evening yesterday, finishing up this archeology based murder mystery. Each chapter opens with a “primary source”, from 1605 colony of Jamestown, VA.The plot is complicated, psychologically thrilling, & as usual follows the lives of Wesley( police), his boss,Heffernan, his wife,Pam, their archeologist Friend Neil. The present murder merges with a twenty year old massacre of a family. (Con.)

kspenmoll Connections between a New Age healing center, once the home where the massacre took place, dollhouses, and an archeological dig in Jamestown,U.S. help create an atmosphere of intrigue, mystery, and simmering evil. 3y
kspenmoll My family visited Jamestown in 2015- so many new discoveries continue today. The archeological site where we spent our time, was exciting & fascinating. 3y
Andrew65 Love Kate Ellis! 3y
Nute I have a renewed interest in Jamestown after watching the PBS program series. I thought that it was pretty good, but it was cancelled after the second season.🙁 Stacking this book! 3y
kspenmoll @Nute I had no idea there was a Jamestown PBS show- will have to check it out 3y

I am joining in - my goal is to finish tagged book and hopefully one more this weekend. Celebrating Memorial Day Monday- village parade that goes by my house, ceremony at cemetery, gathering for food & fun at the fire station- all walking distance. So excited to be able to join my village in this post Covid/vaccination era. In CT 52% of adult population vaccinated; 62% at least one dose.

Andrew65 Have a great weekend. 3y
kspenmoll @Andrew65 Enjoy your weekend as well! 3y

Wesley investigates the death of a true crime writer investigating the case of a family apparently murdered by their housekeeper in the 1980s while Neil is on a dig in America, and running a rather awkward errand for his grandmother while he's over there.

As usual, nice and twisty as past and present are reflected in each other. The ending hints at soap opera-ish goings-on in the offing. I hope not.

VictoriaLegend Thanks to your review, I looked into the series. Had never even heard of Kate Ellis before. It looks like an interesting read. So, I just purchased my copy of The Merchant's House (Book #1 in the series). Thanks for the post! 4y
rwmg @VictoriaLegend I hope you enjoy it 4y

I don't know why the ebook has this boring generic cover rather than the thumbnail cover
