Making History | Stephen Fry
9 posts | 18 read | 30 to read
Stephen Fry tackles alternate history, asking: What if Hitler had never been born? Michael Young is a graduate student at Cambridge who is completing his dissertation on the early life of Adolf Hitler. Leo Zuckerman is an aging German physicist and Holocaust survivor. Together they idealistically embark on an experiment to change the course of history. And with their success is launched a brave new world that is in some ways better than oursbut in most ways even worse. Frys sci-fi-tinged experiment in history makes for an ambitious and deeply affecting novel. From the Trade Paperback edition.

#BookCoverChallenge
Day 60.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - a good take on the concept of changing one thing in the past and how it affects your present. Stephen Fry is the perfect man to take on this potentially complicated challenge, exceptionally well written

Pickpick

My pick for this week's #Recommendsday is Stephen Fry's 1996 novel 'Making history'. It's a story of what-ifs, based on the simple thought experiment: What if Hitler had never been conceived? It is futuristic, funny, but also deeply unsettling as the alternative reality depicted here surprisingly turns out to be an even worse scenario. Especially in our times of international political uncertainty, I highly recommend this book!

Laura317 I love alternate history books! Thanks for the recommendation. 8y
Trav Ah, I love Stephen Fry. I saw him on stage when he was in Sydney last year and he was absolutely brilliant. 8y
LauraBrook Love Stephen and alternate history, so this seems like a perfect match! Plus, I only have his earliest two novels, so now I have a good reason to jump ahead in the purchasing lineup. 8y
