Monkey | Wu Ch'eng-en
6 posts | 10 read | 12 to read
Wu Ch'eng-en wrote Monkey in the middle of the 16th century, adding to an ancient Chinese legend his own touches of delicacy and humour. The result is a jumble of the absurd and the profound, of religion and history, of anti-bureaucratic satire and pure poetry.

I was happy to see this as a free download through the #AudiobookSync program a few weeks ago as I wasn‘t really sure where I would find this Chinese classic. It was interesting to listen to, and I enjoyed the narration. However, after a while it got a bit repetitive and predictable, and I don‘t think that the stories will stick with me.

I finished MONKEY while I did some #audiostitching. You can now almost tell I‘m stitching a little Casey for my mum.

I made tofu lettuce wraps while I barrelled along through the tagged book. It‘s a lot of fun so far, and it‘s free until Thursday through AudiobookSync.

The wraps were tasty, but I think I prefer the tofu made with powdered ginger. It‘s got a nice, strong flavour with the fresh ginger I used today, but there‘s more umami with powdered. Weird. #audiocooking

Okay, so I know this is a total cheat, but my tagged copy of Monkey is in storage, so for #ChinaGrove I'm featuring some of my Chinese films.

Plus In the Mood for Love (my 90th favorite movie) is about a man and woman who discover their spouses are cheating on them so they become friends and write an epic action/adventure serial together. Appropriately bookish I think. Gonna toss this in for #farflung too. #MayBookFlowers #RockinMay
