Two identical twin sisters and former child actors have grown apartuntil one disappears, and the other is forced to confront the secrets they've kept from each other in this twisty suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Things. You be me, and Ill be you, I whispered. As children, Sam and Elli were two halves of a perfect whole: Gorgeous identical twins whose parents sometimes couldnt even tell them apart. They fell asleep to the sound of each others breath at night, holding hands in the dark. And once Hollywood discovered them, they became B-list child TV stars, often inhabiting the same role. But as adults their lives have splintered. After leaving acting, Elli reinvented herself as the perfect homemaker: Married to a real-estate lawyer, in a house two blocks from the beach. Meanwhile, Sam has never recovered from her failed Hollywood career, or from her addiction to the pills and booze that have propped her up for the last fifteen years. Sam hasn't spoken to her sister since her destructive behavior finally drove a wedge between them. So when her father calls out of the blue, Sam is shocked to learn that Ellis life has been in turmoil: Her husband moved out, and Elli just adopted a two-year-old girl. Now shes stopped answering her phone and checked in to a mysterious spa in Ojai. Is her sister just decompressing, or is she in trouble? Could she have possibly joined a cult? As Sam works to connect the dots left by Ellis baffling disappearance, she realizes that the bond between her and her sister is more complicated than she ever knew. Ill Be You shows Janelle Brown at the top of her game: a story packed with surprising revelations and sharp insights about the choices that define our families and our livesand could just as easily destroy them.

MYSTERY - THRILLER

Secrets, lies, bad decisions, and unbelievable surprises - what else could go on between the identical twins Sam and Ellie.

This book is filled with family drama along with some unlawful and tense situations and decisions.

The ending is very tense, and the cult business was frightening and upsetting. 4/5

I love anything about a cult, so I was fully in for this one. I thought it was over-dramatic with the Charlotte storyline but it was a page-turner for sure.

Twins changing places, a cult(ish) storyline and childhood stars living in LA are all in this novel by Brown ❤️❤️

I‘ll Be You—I loved that the story was told from both twins perspective. A bit predictable, but I still enjoyed it.

When We Were Beautiful-Important book and a great message that is relatable all over the world even here in the USA. Think about how this is similar to Flint, MI I missed dialog and plot, it‘s still a pick for me.

The Last Crown-2nd book in a trilogy. I loved the first book, but bailed here. Wrong time maybe. May try again

Love, love, loved this listen. When is self-help merely selfish? I always say I like strong women characters; this book is full of them, all flawed and fascinating. It‘s amazing the lengths people will go to, to get what they want, or to go along to get along. How far would you push or be pushed?

I have no idea how this ended up on my radar because I‘m not familiar with the author. I‘m guessing I read that it revolved around a cult which is catnip for me. It‘s not really a mystery, per se, but more of an examination of the twin dynamic when both members of the pair are seemingly irrevocably broken. One sister is an addict while the other is involved in a Scientology/NXIVM type of cult. I couldn‘t put it down.

Call me petty, but I have a really hard time with baby talk in books. I know what a toddler sounds like. Things like “tweasure” and “hungwy” take me right out of the story and otherwise this book is very engaging!!! Is it just me?!?

This was an excellent pick for me. I like these type of cult thrillers and this one have a lot of good information about the character and how she got wrapped up in a cult. This was a great read, interesting, and we'll paced. 🌟🌟🌟✨
One of my favorite thrillers of the year, and really is more of a story about twins and how the strayed from one another.

Okay, who bought books on #IndependentBookstoreDay?
My plan had been to stay home that day but this was me getting coffee ‘LOOKING‘ at books. I did pretty well.

I‘m so behind on reviews, behind on lists, decision-making, everything. I‘ve been reading quite a bit, considering an online course if I can get financial aid (my brain is turning to mush).

Oh and I have to decide on meniscus repair surgery for my left knee🤦🏻‍♀️

This was a good psychological suspense novel with intriguing twins that I really felt for. It covered addiction, fame, mind control, and manipulation. I liked the cult aspect because I have read a lot of non fiction and it lined up with the information I had.
