#LuckyinLove

An audiobook I am working my way through-one of the #Hearts titles in my book stacks. According to Brene‘ Brown‘s research there are 87 human emotions/feelings/experiences. The places we go when the heart is open include love. â¤ï¸ðŸ’œðŸ©·

I have such mixed feelings about this book and this author. Her research is fascinating and important and insightful. Her writing style is casual and confessional and probably creates parasocial relationships with many readers and fans. I find that aspect irritating and uncomfortable though. Recommend, and many people love her. I would probably talk to her at a party but would not prolong the conversation beyond one plate of snacks.

Too lazy to get up and take a proper photo. But this is my first finished book in a long, long time. I‘ve loved Brene Brown‘s work forever so it was fun going down such a detailed ride with her on how correctly labeled emotions can change our authenticity in communication.

I was introduced to thinking about some emotions in ways I hadn‘t thought of before. For example envy coming from feeling you don‘t deserve something.

I enjoyed this one, but at the same time kind of a let down with how much she quoted her previous work. I get that she is a profound theorist, and likely nobody else to quote on a specific emotion but IDK it kinda seemed self-elevating in a way. I'll be the first to confess this book took me 9 months + 4 days to read in bits and pieces and I honestly think that was why.

We have very different opinions on how to wait for our swimmer to finish practice. He's playing a disc golf app 🥴🤷

The heavy emotions are towards the end of this book and I wish it had ended on one's that were a little lighter

Because I‘ve read some of her other books and had some therapy, there weren‘t too many big “aha moments†in this material for me. It was interesting and well put together, but mostly it is a hefty glossary of emotions. She emphasizes the importance of having a nuanced understanding of emotions so that you have the vocabulary to better articulate your feelings and improve emotional communication in relationships.

Suet624 Good to know about this book. I was expecting something a bit different. 2y
HeatherBookNerd @Suet624 I‘ve oversimplified of course! It‘s good. But very different. 2y

In order to make relationships and human connection, we need to be able to understand the emotions we face, and communicate those emotions. As Brown shows, we really don‘t know and understand a good number of the emotions we feel. I can say that I learned a good number of emotions that I simply label as ‘angry‘. It was eye opening.

This was quite the book to the heart.

While this book is about 87 emotions and experiences, an underlying theme is the power of language. It's difficult to explain how we're feeling unless we have the words. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants more honesty with themselves and in their relationships. It's about making human connections more meaningful and in the end, what's more important in life?

This might be my favorite of the Brene Brown books (but I say that every time I read one.) Each chapter is an explanation of similar emotions and commentary on them. Oddly, I used this book in the last week more as a parenting book (a 14 and 12 year old do have a large range of emotions to describe and process) and better articulate for myself areas I need to grow. I read this in short spurts, which allowed me time to process and reflect.

Suet624 I‘m looking forward to reading this (edited) 2y

It‘s been a kinda wild 24 hours as I traveled home from Thanksgiving gathering with my family out of state.

So much so that it felt like a surprise to get this delivered today.

I‘m someone who needs the audiobook companion to embark on a new read, so this book will be on my 2022 TBR, but if I remember correctly it drops in February which is my birthday month, so I feel good about that!

Anybody else receive this as happy book mail today?
