9 posts | 14 read | 12 to read
Lia Setiawan has never really fit in. And when she wins a full ride to the prestigious Draycott Academy on a track scholarship, she's determined to make it work even though she's never felt more out of place. But on her first day there she witnesses a girl being forcefully carried away by campus security. Her new schoolmates and teachers seem unphased, but it leaves her unsure of what she's gotten herself into. And as she uncovers the secrets of Draycott, complete with a corrupt teacher, a golden boy who isn't what he seems, and a blackmailer determined to get her thrown out, she's not sure if she can trust anyone...especially when the threats against her take a deadly turn.

A decent YA thriller, but I did like The Obsession much more. It was way easy to figure out the villain! It didn‘t take away any enjoyment for me though, and there were some good twists.

Book 52🎧 3⭐️

An enjoyable YA thriller. A few good twists I didn‘t see coming!

What lengths would you go to, to keep your scholarship? Drugs? Murder? 🏃🏼‍♀️

Every time I pick up a YA book, I remember why I don‘t like YA books. I just can‘t with the drama. I didn‘t know this was YA when I suggested it for the library and so here we are. It‘s great, for a YA thriller, I think? It‘s got some good laugh-out-loud bits, weaves in current issues nicely, and plows along at a rapid pace. I do have a question about the ending (will put in comments) if any one else has read this.

Book 1/3 for #MarvellousMarch

janeycanuck Why does Lia have an ankle monitor in the epilogue? Doesn‘t it say she was free and clear? 2y
Megabooks Yes, the drama, especially romantic, tends to turn me off YA books. 2y
janeycanuck @Megabooks yup. Once through highschool was enough for me! (edited) 2y

After a slightly rocky start I ended up really getting into this one. A wild, but enjoyable, ride.

This was fun, but definitely a ya novel; so many times I was just screaming at her in my head. This had a large amount of twists and turns, making it a fun and fast read. Luckily, there wasn‘t too many twists and a limited cast of characters, making everything easy to follow along and keep track of. But also, it was hella easy to know who was gonna end up the villain. Like, from the first chapter you had to have seen that coming.

I recently read Jesse Q. Sutanto's Dial A for Aunties and absolutely loved her over the top humorous style. The New Girl has the same smart sarcasm and quick witted and quick paced writing that I loved in her romance series. This one is scheduled for publication just in time for me to send a copy to my niece for her upcoming birthday. #ARC #netgalley
