The Rising Tide
The Rising Tide | Sam Lloyd
3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Perfect for fans of Jane Harper, the beautifully written, evocative and pulse-pounding new novel from Sam Lloyd. A family pushed to its limits, set against the backdrop of the most unforgiving of landscapes. The news doesn't strike cleanly, like a guillotine's blade. Nothing so merciful. This news is a slovenly traveller, dragging its feet, gradually revealing its horrors. And it announces itself first with violence--the urgent hammering of fists on the front door. Life can change in a heartbeat. Lucy has everything she could wish for: a beautiful home high on the clifftops above the Devonshire coast, her own thriving business, a devoted husband and two beloved children. Then one morning, time stops. Their family yacht is recovered, abandoned far out at sea. Lucy's husband is nowhere to be found and as the seconds tick by, she begins to wonder--what if he was the one who took the boat? And if so, where is he now? As a once-in-a-generation storm frustrates the rescue operation, Lucy pieces together what happened onboard. And then she makes a fresh discovery. One that plunges her into a nightmare more shocking than any she could ever have imagined . . .

Oh this was a good one! The author skilfully lets the reader become invested in the main character before turning the narrative 180 so we then start to doubt her. Is Lucy hiding something? Does she know more than she is saying? It's very well done & although I worked out some of what was happening, I didn't work it all out. So why not the full five stars? (Continued)

OutsmartYourShelf It was a bit slow at times especially towards the middle, but the ending was great. If you enjoyed their previous book The Memory Wood you'll love this one. Verdict: excellent plot, well-crafted narrative with twists & red herrings, but a little slow in the middle. 4.5🌟

Lucy and Daniel Locke and their two children, Billie and Fin, live in a big house on top of a hill overlooking the Devon coast. A monster of a storm is brewing and Daniel, Billie and Fin are lost at sea after taking the family yacht out. Daniel is rescued but Billie and Fin are still missing. DI Abraham Rose and his team are investigating and Lucy and Daniel become suspects.

EadieB This clever and unique book starts out fast-paced and the reader is forced to keep turning pages in order to find out some answers. In the middle, the book slows down and gets a bit repetitive. Towards the end there are heart-pounding twists and turns culminating into an exciting surprise ending. 2y
