56 Days | Catherine Ryan Howard

Pickpick

Story is around the pandemic time so I had my flashbacks😳The story goes back and forth during these 56 days without a chronological order and from different perspectives. I liked that. A body is found in one apartment. It seems that the victim was someone who‘s identity was protected. Then the story goes back and forth knowing the characters, circumstances with many twists until we know what really happened. The end? It‘s a little bit open⬇️

Gissy I liked the agents as characters, Lee and Karl, they gave some humor to the story. I didn‘t see that final twist coming, I thought it was other thing. Took me by surprise. But due to that ending and some other parts I gave it 3/3.5 ⭐️ 10mo

First time I read a book by this author, can you believe it?😳I have this book since 2018 thinking that I would not like it...but...
This book is intense and has the trigger of domestic violence. It is very explicit in the physical and psychological abuse. I will say this part was clinically well described. Also it was symptoms related with PTSD were well described.

Ernt and Cora married very young, Cora was 15 or 16 and Ernt was 25.⬇️

Gissy Cora hast not siblings and her parents didn‘t approve her marriage with Ernt. Cora said that Ernt changed after he came from the Vietnam War where he was captured and tortured. Cora asked him not to d listed. Since Ernt return, he cannot maintain a job, drink too much and has mood outburst. He maintains his family isolated. He inherited a home in Alaska and decided to move there with Cora and their 13 year old daughter Leni. ⬇️ 10mo
Gissy (Cont.) Living in Alaska turned Ernt into an abusive husband but also in Alaska Cora and Leni found good supportive friends. The story goes narrating what Cora and Leni lived with Ernt abusive behavior. Then something happens that the lives of Cora and Leni changed. Not much to say after this without spoiling the story.
I will say that it was hard to read in these parts and I felt frustrated with Cora decision even when I know...⬇️
10mo
Gissy (Cont.)...her behavior is part of that abusive relationship cycle. The co-dependent relationship between these characters is so dysfunctional. In real life, is worst. I didn‘t like one part at the end which I think was unrealistic. The end? Well I will like to think that there will be hope in this type of relations. But how realistic was the end? I don‘t know. 3.8/4⭐️ 10mo

Free translation: Dark is the Night
This story is two time line: in the present 2020, Sandra, a famous singer in a band, wants to take sometime for herself after her divorce with Olivia. Her manger found her a place in the peninsule coast. She goes by incognito, to this hotel called Hotel Paris. There, Sandra feels strange sensations, eerie atmosphere and hears a song. She decides to follow the song, to see where it comes from⬇️

Gissy She will found that there is a mystery attached to the hotel, the song and the village. There is also some tension in the village due to the presence of these wolves. During this process to explore the hotel, where the song comes from and her visits to the village, she will meet two journalist and a friend came to visit her. Then this friend disappeared. Everything is connected. During those actions we go back and forth to the 1920s. ⬇️ 10mo

Gissy (Cont.) In those parts during the 1920‘s we will know Candela and her secret. What happened to her? Her relation with the hotel, the village, the song and why all their is connected with Sandra. This is a paranormal/mystery with a touch of thriller. It is a long novel (600 pages) so many things happen. Let‘s say that is not a great novel because there were part of this paranormal element that I found absurd, but kept my attention.⬇️ 10mo

Gissy I liked more those past parts than the present; and there were characters in the present time that I enjoyed more than the main character🤷🏽‍♀️If you see the cover, you will see a clue.

First time I read a novel by this author. 3.5/3.8⭐️

These are my two English editions. Do I need more editions? Of course I NEED more beautiful editions😂The gorgeous hardback😍was from @mabel during a Jane Austen swap. The print came as part of the decoration but I saved it. I think the mug was also from @mabel

Another Jane Austen novel that I enjoyed. Both editions have an introduction that helps to understand the historical events surrounding the novel topic, I liked the characters and plot⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)...that was like a soap opera with terrible characters like Isabella, a villain, a gothic mystery, impossible love because of stupid social/financial status, etc. and happy love story. Isabella...John...those characters. I don‘t want a friend like Isabella never ever. 3.8/4 ⭐️ 10mo

mabell I love this! ❤️❤️❤️ I‘m so glad you enjoyed the story! I‘m going to have to look at the introductions - I‘m curious about what they say! It is like a soap opera a little bit 😂 10mo
Gissy @mabell That Isabella was terrible and John??? Manipulative little man. Did you see @LeahBerg post about the book The Novels of Georgette Heyer: A Celebration by Jennifer Kloester. I immediately thought in you and @Chrissyreadit because you both have posted books by this author. That book is like a reference book about author‘s novels. It has high ratings in GR. I have the series Inspectors Hannasyde and Hemingway by this author. I need to read it (edited) 10mo
Gissy @mabell I think I will check that book that @LeahBerg recommended 10mo
mabell They were terrible! Yet you could picture them so well! I did see that book that Leah mentioned! It sounds really good! But I tend to avoid background type books to avoid spoiling the magic 😆 10mo

My #bookreport for #Sharreadathon in memory of @sharread 🕯🕯
During readathon I read 639 pages. But didn't count hours for audiobook.
I finished 5 books (2 are novellas). And still need to finish 2. The tagged book is my favourite and I read it in my native language. Casino Banale is by local author and not translated to english.

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
