Behold the Monster
Behold the Monster: Facing Americas Most Prolific Serial Killer | Jillian Lauren
7 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
Enter the mind of a serial killer and his victims. When researching a new crime novel, Jillian spoke to Mitzi Roberts, the famed LAPD homicide detective. During that conversation, Mitzi revealed that her greatest achievement was catching a murderer. But also that she was absolutely convinced that that killer had killed many more. So Jillian went to speak the murderer himself and thats where she fell into a rabbit hole. Over 40 hours of conversation, Samuel Little confessed killing after killing to Jillian Lauren. He told her of the marginalised and drug-addicted women he strangled to death. He sent her memorial art of his victims. He talked and talked and talked. And when he finished talking, she realised she had been speaking to one of the most prolific serial killers of all time. Not only was Jillian astounded at how Samuel had opened up to her, uncovering his horrific deeds, but she also recognised herself in the stories of his victims. The vulnerable sex workers and drug addicts just as she had previously been. This is a haunting parallel story of killer, author and victims, the journey into a disturbing mind and a murderer that shocked the world.

As with any true crime book, I also feel it is important to tell the story of the victims, which I think the author took great care with. The brazen nature of his murders, and the fact that he was able to continue for so long taking as many people as he did was both disturbing and chilling. True crime readers will find this takes you right into the heart of a cold blooded killer.

I watched a documentary on this topic with the author participating with telling about her interaction with Sam Little. It was really interesting and scary at the same time. I put this one on my wish list and waited patiently for it to release. I inhaled this #chunkster! True crime at its finest! #bookspin @thearomaofbooks

Mehso-so

Still catching up on my audio reviews. Another I found lacking, though I don‘t know what could have been done differently. Again, it‘s probably me and not the book 😑
A true crime investigation in which the author puts herself in the story, the present day timeline. Past crimes committed by Samuel Little (America‘s most prolific serial killer) are the other chapters which Lauren places readers in the action, from the perspective of victims.

Jillian Lauren had no idea what she was getting into when she wrote her first letter to prolific serial killer Samuel Little. While the two exchanged dozens of letters and embarked on hundreds of hours of interviews, Lauren gained the trust of a monster. After maintaining his innocence for decades, Little confessed to the murders of ninety-three women, often drawing his victims in

EadieB This book was published in 2018 but after the death of serial killer Samuel Little in 2020 from Covid 19, she decided to republish to include more murders solved and to mention his death. I found the story to be very interesting and the book centers on Samuel Little as the most prolific serial killer of 93 women in US history. 10mo
EadieB The man was truly a monster that preyed on women as he would get them in his car and strangle them to death and then just dump them out of his car into the area and drive away. You need to read this book in order to get the full story as he became very fond of the author, Jillian Lauren. She was made next of kin and was notified of his death and received money and scraps of papers about his murders. (edited) 10mo
EadieB If you like true crime about serial murders then you would love this book. 10mo
