Slow burn to boredom
I've probably read ten or so fiction books about WW2 and they all come from different perspectives. It is a story about two women on different sides of the war, switching between Germany and America. I learned so many things that I had never even heard of before, like Mittelwerk.
I learned about Project Paperclip, the Dust Bowl, & Kristallnacht. It wasn't violently graphic but it had me emotional at times because of how helpless things could be.
HISTORICAL FICTION - WWII
1933 - we meet Lizzie and Henry in the United States and Sofie and Jurgen in Germany.
1950 - we meet the characters again in the United States.
Well researched - great story line - and you will learn about Operation PaperClip.

Discovering the work of a talented author for the 1st time is a pleasure, especially when it's historical fiction about WWII. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝗪𝐢𝐟𝐞 is the 1st book I have read by 𝐊𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫. I intended to read just a few minutes but she pulled me into a fascinating, frightening story with eerie parallels to the U.S. today. I suspect she's going to break my heart, but I plan to keep reading ...
This is a heart-breaking story of two families on opposite sides during WWII. It is a story of two women fighting to protect their families in some of the worst of times. Sometimes the choices made have devastating consequences.
Gorgeous cover….great read!!
Ms. Rimmer did an amazing job of research. I had never heard of Operation Paperclip/Rocket Program.
THE GERMAN WIFE is simply marvelous...well researched and has a terrific story line. 5/5

A very unique HF book for the WW2 time period that focuses on Operation Paperclip which is not widely used as a subject matter in books during this time period. The book is highly emotional, riveting and gut wrenching . I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and felt that I learned a bit more history of this period which really added to my enjoyment! Many thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the advanced copy in exchange for my review.
It amazes me how authors keep finding different stories to tell about WWII. This one does a wonderful job of imagining the difficult choices some Germans faced and then the trouble they had adapting to new lives. It started out a little slow and jumped between people and times a lot at the beginning, but I was soon caught up in the fascinating story inspired by some true events. Like the best historical fiction I learned new things. 4.25/5
