Horror has a new name: Daphne. A brutal, enigmatic woman stalks a high school basketball team in a reimagining of the slasher genre by the New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box. Its the last summer for Kit Lamb: The last summer before college. The last summer with her high school basketball team, and with Dana, her best friend. The last summer before her life begins. But the night before the big game, one of the players tells a ghost story about Daphne, a girl who went to their school many years ago and died under mysterious circumstances. Some say she was murdered, others that she died by her own hand. And some say that Daphne is a murderer herself. They also say that Daphne is still out there, obsessed with revenge, and will appear to kill again anytime someone thinks about her. After Kit hears the story, her teammates vanish, one by one, and Kit begins to suspect that the stories about Daphne are real . . . and to fear that her own mind is conjuring the killer. Now its a race against time as Kit searches for the truth behind the legend and learns to face her own fearsbefore the summer of her lifetime becomes the last summer of her life. Mixing a nostalgic coming-of-age story and an instantly iconic female villain with an innovative new vision of classic horror, Daphne is an unforgettable thriller as only Josh Malerman could imagine it.

Book 105🎧 3.8⭐️

Although the story wasn‘t overly spooky to me, Malerman did an exceptional job with Kit. The way she describes living with anxiety and how we are constantly battled by thoughts we “try not to think about” only to end up doing exactly that.
Her story changing from anxiety, depression & OCD - to finding her strength though sitting with those emotions.

👌🏻

2.5 stars rounded up to 3 for some truly scary and gruesome scenes.
This story was definitely giving off some serious "A Nightmare on Elm Street" vibes almost to the point where I thought "Does the estate of Wes Craven have grounds to sue?"
This story about a myth that comes to life to stalk the all-girls high school basketball team has way too much basketball, clunky writing and a storyline that didn‘t fully make sense.
P.S. I hate basketball.

Per usual, Gibson‘s Bookstore in Concord, New Hampshire has absolutely crushed it with their book events! Last night, they hosted the incredible Josh Malerman. Gibson‘s Queen of Scream, Ryan, did an awesome job with the chat and Q&A!

Check out my post to learn more about the event:

Tagged book! I do wish it were Friday though🤷‍♀️
I am reading on my Kindle since it‘s an ARC but it‘s good so far. A little bit like an 80s horror movie vibe. I do not mark any book except #LMPBC and that only cause Suellen told me to..😂😂 @suvata @MoonWitch94 #ThoughtfulThursday

MoonWitch94 Thanks for playing ☺️📚 2y

#NetGalley #ARC

I'm giving this one a pick, but just barely. I thought the idea was great, but sadly the story was slow in parts which kept disrupting the flow for me.

I enjoyed the female cast of characters and the book had some truly great slasher/horror moments. Malerman fans though will be pleased with this one I think. It's not my favorite by him, but still a good horror read.

vivastory I can't believe how prolific he is now 🤯 I've read only 4 of his books 2y
