Dark Entries | Robert Aickman
7 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
Robert Aickman (1914-1981) was the grandson of Richard Marsh, a leading Victorian novelist of the occult. Though his chief occupation in life was first as a conservationist of England's canals he eventually turned his talents to writing what he called 'strange stories.' Dark Entries (1964) was his first full collection, the debut in a body of work that would inspire Peter Straub to hail Aickman as 'this century's most profound writer of what we call horror stories.'

Really enjoyed this little collection of supernatural and macabre short stories. Well paced, atmospheric, chilling. I had never heard of this author before but now I want to seek out more of his work.

batsy Such a fabulous cover. 5y

I narrowed my October #TBR down to this stack. I'm going to reread Wraith and my favorite Ray Bradbury short story collection, October Country. I'm excited to finally read Another! This will also be my first time reading Robert Aickman. I'm ready for a month of dark, spooky reading! 👻

RealBooks4ever Nice selection! Happy reading! 💜🎃👻 7y
RohitSawant Oh this is awesome! You'll love The October Country! The Datlow antho and Aickman's Dark Entries are on my TBR. The other titles look interesting as well! 7y

This one is full of some great creepers. Especially "Ringing The Changes".

I got my new library card and checked out the Aickman book. Then I went to the sale corner and got the Virginia Woolf. And I had been wanting a copy of that book for a while.

LauraBrook An excellent, meant-to-be day! 7y

Spotted this at my favorite local bookstore as the horror bookclub's selection this month. Gorgeous cover and a Neil Gaiman endorsement can't steer a girl wrong, right?
