Solving this murder will be a royal pain. The royal family has gathered at their Scottish retreat, Balmoral Castle, for a traditional Christmas. As a blizzard gathers outside and a delicious dinner is prepared, the family circles up for a holiday toast. King Eric has something momentous to sayin fact, he is about to name his successor. But as he raises a glass of his favorite whiskey, he drops dead. The king has been poisoned, someone in the family must have done it, and each one of them had opportunity and motive. Erics beloved head chef, Jonathan, must now play detective. Why would one of the king's own family members want to kill him, and how did they do it? What happens in the castle usually stays in the castle, but this secret might be too big for these battlements. Pickpick

I randomly picked this book up at a bookstore last year and finally read it! This was a pretty good mystery. It‘s a reimagining of history in the royal family. Told from the perspective of the chef. Someone gets murdered and he has to work to find the killer.

Ruthiella You can still maintain that average by some judicious reading as the year progresses! 👍I‘m curious to hear how Slocum‘s second book is! I just listened to him on a podcast today and he seems to be such a great person. 11mo

Got my #BOTM picks in the mail yesterday! I wish I had more hours so I can read these all immediately.

It‘s been in the 70s this weekend so we went for a motorcycle ride to the bookstore. It‘s only the 2nd time ever I‘ve been on the bike, so I had to have the right incentive! I picked up the top 2 books.

Panpan

This was a great concept, wasn't executed very well. The characters seemed to be one dimensional, so didn't connect with any of them; I felt a little, but didn't really care much what happened to any of them. Also, lots of clues thrown out that they never revisit and then are just seemingly forgotten or a random piece of info thrown out off the cuff that suddenly has major implications at the very end. It was...all just a bit confusing for me.
