Before the Coffee Gets Cold (First Time Trade)
Before the Coffee Gets Cold (First Time Trade) | Toshikazu Kawaguchi
5 posts | 10 read | 1 to read
"Heartwarming, quirky, and wistful." --HuffPost If you could go back, who would you want to meet? In a small back alley of Tokyo, there is a caf that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. Local legend says that this shop offers something else besides coffee--the chance to travel back in time. Over the course of one summer, four customers visit the caf in the hopes of making that journey. But time travel isn't so simple, and there are rules that must be followed. Most important, the trip can last only as long as it takes for the coffee to get cold. "Resonant... The narrative is deeply moving." --Chicago Review of Books "The story is gold. Before the Coffee Gets Cold is perfect for anyone who wants to feel connected." --Bookreporter

Super-late to #jolabokaflodSwap2024 (just finished a 7-day stretch of work at the Children‘s Hospital for Christmas) but this is just what the doctor ordered! Thank you, @Roary47 !!! The chocolate didn‘t melt!

Roary47 Yay! Our cold front didn‘t hit until after I sent it. I hope you get a relaxing reset. 💛 1w

Hello #SaturdayChatterday

A check-in for all Littens to share your plans, recommendations, what's on your mind, etc.
All are welcome. ♥️☕️♥️

I'll be popping back in and out through the day to catch up. I'm busy prepping the final details for #MidwinterSolace 💙❄️💙

I'll start of tagging BkueSky friends @JudeCC @TheLudicReader @Soscha @Suet624 @Kitta @LeahBergen @Traci1 @Nebklvr @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

Bookwormjillk I‘m still thinking about bluesky. I really like threads but I know it‘s run by the Meta people. I‘m alternating deep cleaning and slothfulness today, and eventually want to make it to the library. 1mo
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk I like Threads too but want out of Meta. It's a lot to think about as it's such an integral part of our lives now. Hope you het a good library haul 😊 1mo
TheBookHippie Taking the DIVA Miss Winifred to vet for her shots and nails to be cut… vet is hour away so three hour journey at the least… 1mo

AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I can't imagine that she's thrilled about this trip. 😅 Good luck 🐾 1mo
kspenmoll I am a total sloth today. Still in PJs, reading in bed after breakfast. If I decide to, a library visit for a hold. There is always Sunday… 1mo
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll I made it to library yesterday!!! Arendt was in! Yay. Library closed here Sunday- Jesus didn‘t read apparently -or it‘s a sin -who knows.. 😂😂😅. 1mo
AllDebooks @kspenmoll a duvet day is always a good day 😍 1mo
Soscha I‘m always juggling multi reads & stuff I need to get working on. Portable Greek Reader & Greek Classics stuff (a major I missed out on), ARC stuff I‘ve involuntarily gave up on. Couple audiobooks, Serial Reader (Phantom of the Opera). Just started Prince of Hearts (Kiru Taye) which I‘ve learned is surely set in Lagos, with Hausa slang—and now *must* learn Hausa as these are the crayze sidetracks I get on. 1mo
AllDebooks @Soscha I hear you x 1mo
LeahBergen We are having a HUGE dump of snow today so I‘ve decided that I‘ll be “snowed in”. Nothing is allowed except reading. 😆 1mo
AllDebooks @LeahBergen haha 😄 I did that on Tuesday. 💙❄️ Enjoy ❄️💙 1mo
bookwyrm7 Ooh I didn't know this was a thing. I love it! Will try to join you all next Saturday. 1mo
Traci1 Today is my 28th wedding anniversary. Husband is working and I'm home with our 2 youngest. Our middle child can't be left home alone, so the plan is takeout sushi dinner and maybe watch a movie. 😊 1mo
Suet624 Saying goodbye to family as they all disperse after the holiday. 😳😩 cleaning an Airbnb and then on the couch to read and nap and read and nap. 😂 1mo
AllDebooks @Traci1 Wow, 28 years!! Congratulations x 🍾 1mo
AllDebooks @Suet624 I love a game of nap roulette, could be 10 minutes, could be 3 hours 😅🤪 1mo
Suet624 You too?! That 3 hour nap is always a surprise. 1mo
Kitta Finished a book today, still recovering from pneumonia (mostly better but tired easily) so it‘s sweats and relaxing for me!! 1mo
Traci1 @Kitta hope you're feeling better. Sweats and relaxing sounds wonderful. 1mo
AllDebooks @Kitta glad you're recuperating. Keep up with the R&R x 💕 1mo
Soscha I‘m looking at the 2025 Tournament of Books long list. Will I be able to finish them all this time? (Likely not!) 1mo
Kitta @Traci1 thanks! It‘s been a long road and I‘m definitely doing much better than I was. Lots of tea and antibiotics helped. I was off work for almost 3 weeks 😬 1mo
Kitta @AllDebooks thanks, I‘m definitely doing much better than I was - still a bit tired and coughing but much improved. ❤️ 1mo
JudeCC Thanks so much for the tag! I‘ve been so sick and today is awful. In bed rn. 🤧🤕 Hope everyone is doing ok. Blessings and a fun winter to all. Sending love. ❤️ 1mo
AllDebooks @JudeCC oh no, get well soon. Rest is the best. X 1mo

Had no idea this was based off a play until after I bought it. Some reviews said they didn‘t really like the writing style, but it didn‘t bother me too much. Some parts were a tiny bit repetitive, but I really did love the last two chapters… Sisters and Mother and Child. Loved the ending.

Garabrandtreviews Are you going to read the other three books? They are all amazing 12mo
AbstractMonica @Garabrandtreviews yes, I added them to my tbr pile so I‘m hoping to get to them soon 12mo

Don‘t mind me, I‘m just sobbing in a corner for all of eternity. This was beautiful. It hurt in all the right places but it was a good thing.

CatLass007 The description of this book sounds intriguing. I‘ve added it to my Audible wish list. 1y

#UnpopularOpinion time. I feel a bit like Scrooge shouting Bah! Humbug! but this did not live up to its hype for me.
While I love the concept, I found the stories overly sentimental, some of the characters really irritating, and if the prose had been written in the present tense it would have read exactly like overly detailed stage directions. 🤷🏼‍♀️

TrishB I bailed on this and have been forever scratching my head at the appeal! We definitely can‘t all like the same things. 2y
Leniverse @TrishB I read it one story at the time in-between other things, because it's only short and I was curious to see if we'd get some explanations. But I definitely won't be getting the sequel. 😆 Glad it's not just me though! 2y
