#1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER A serial killer in a small Swedish town commits his first murder the same night the prime minister is assassinated in this thrilling and profoundly poignant (Angie Kim) novel by one of the countrys top criminologists, hailed as the finest crime writer we have in Sweden (David Lagercrantz, author of The Girl in the Spiders Web and other novels in Stieg Larssons Millennium Series) Christoffer Carlsson is to the police procedural what Cormac McCarthy is to the Western.Anthony Marra, author of Mercury Pictures Presents and A Constellation of Vital Phenomena In February 1986, the Halland police receive a call from a man who claims to have attacked his first victim. Im going to do it again, he says before the line cuts off. By the time police officer Sven Jrgensson reaches the crime scene, the woman is taking her last breath. For Sven, this will prove a decisive moment. On the same night, Sweden plunges into a state of shock after the murder of the prime minister. Could there possibly be a connection? As Sven becomes obsessed with the case, two more fall victim. For years, Sven remains haunted by the murders he cannot solve, fearing the killer will strike again. Having failed to catch him, Sven retires from the police, passing his obsession to his son, who has joined the force to be closer to his father. Decades later, the case unexpectedly resurfaces when a novelist returns home to Halland amid a failed marriage and a sputtering career. The writer befriends the retired police officer, who helps the novelistour narratorunspool the many strands of this engrossing tale about a community confronting its shames and legacies. A #1 bestseller in Sweden, Blaze Me a Sun marks the American debut of the youngest winner of the Best Swedish Crime Novel of the Year award, the top prize for Swedish crime writers whose past winners include Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell.

Crime , serial killer , set in Sweden. Good writing and a steady pace all the way through. I guessed the ending , which is most unusual for me 🤣. There‘s a fair bit of philosophising too and nature, which I enjoyed. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. Thanks @batsy for recommending this writer. I‘m off to start another by him now .. Under The Storm. 👍🏻❤️

This is a complex murder mystery which captivates and keeps you guessing. This is book 2 of a series translated to English. “This is a haunting, cinematic novel about the legacy of violence and a community's collective guilt by one of Scandinavia's most celebrated young crime writers."

Oh I think I judge my mysteries too harshly. But again this #Doublespin was a so-so soft pick. I really enjoyed the plot and Sweden setting. A cop and his son who follows in his footsteps are wrapped into story of unsolved rapes/murders. But oh, so overwritten. This is debut novel. The author was just trying to be too….deep? Literary? There are many hilarious sentences . Get over yourself. Focus on the story!

Looking forward to diving into this one! Sitting on the boat watching ospreys fish and woodpeckers peck.

SamAnne And for #20in4 I want to make a dent in the tagged book. My other goal was to finish Lady Chatterlys Lover for #sundaybuddyread. Done! @Andrew65 8mo

When a woman is murdered in small town Sweden, it doesn‘t make much of a stir, as it happened the night of the PM‘s assassination. But then a second woman goes missing. We see the crimes and resolution through the eyes of a writer digging into the cold case years later. Well executed mystery with some great plot choices.

So much more than a crime book. It also looks at the way a cop can become obsessed with solving a crime and the guilt that comes with that.

As won the Swiss Crime Award. Will publish in the USA on January 3, 2023.

11th book for #Winterreadathon and last book for 2022.

I like my Scandinavian noir pretty dark and this falls into the lighter end of acceptable. So I'm definitely giving it a pick. It did feel slightly too long. A writer moves back to his hometown and starts poking around in some old cold cases. You should give it a try if that sounds like your jam.
