The moments of wit or interest aren't nearly enough to make up for the curmudgeonly feel of the book overall, to say nothing of the casual racism, homophobia and transphobia. I originally DNF'd this and I wish I'd stuck with that decision, since I used to love this author.

The beauty of this book is in its simplicity. From its beautiful cover to our titular character. A short read that follows the life of Zorrie. It is beautifully written and is incredibly efficient. I highly recommend! Delightful read for #sundaybuddyread and overlaps as my #doublespin!

The past week has been unbearably stressful with several deaths in the family/extended family, some political upheaval overseas that affects my family profoundly, a major holiday dawning and some health issues… so it‘s no surprise that I‘m projecting my mind into next month in all the little ways possible, hoping that another week will make the world seem lighter. #bookspin #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks

Some of Bourdain‘s books I‘ve reread have been a bit disappointing, but not this one that ignited my original love of memoirs more than 20 years ago. It‘s good to read that initial enthusiasm and wonder he had for the world albeit with his trademark early cynicism, too. CT plays every night for free on PlutoTV, and I catch an episode every now and then and usually enjoy it. But I love reading later interviews, too, and how his outlook changed.

Megabooks It‘s sad how tired he looked near his death, though. This is my #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks 🎉 2d
Larkken He was incredible in his flaws and in the joy and energy he brought to his work, esp at first 🖤 I‘ve been unable to try the biographical essays Woolever compiled, feels like it would turn me into a snot bomb. Have you read it? 2d
Megabooks @Larkken I have! It‘s fantastic on audio, and I recently picked up a used print copy for the photos. He was such a cute little kid. I also enjoyed this by his long-time director. 2d

A female alpha, a “damaged” arrow, and a mating at first sight!

It was great to see a female alpha, and the Russian wolf pack (as well as some more of the bears). The care they both took to look after each other following their surprise mating was great. And I love how in this series everything interconnects. We get new povs each book, but the overarching story continues, and we see old MCs too.

This was my March #DoubleSpin

This is my first BS/DS doubleheader! This series received so much Litsy love that I‘d be amiss not to add it to my TBR. I finally prioritized these warm-hugs-in-book-form and read them back-to-back. They are both cute as a bug‘s ear, I liked both equally, and perfect when you yearn for a couple days of stress-free reading.

marleed @Cupcake12 oh same here. I was giddy with excitement when I realized I could use both my bookspin and my DoubleSpin categories to read both books! Btw, the second book is a prequel but both are stand alone plots so it doesn‘t really matter if book-recall fades in the time it gets from one book to the next. 3d

The Women: A Novel | Kristin Hannah

I liked it - didn't love it. While I appreciate the author bringing needed attention to the women who served in Vietnam, it lacks depth. She rushes from tragic plot point to tragic plot point, seeming to believe that's all her readers are here for now. I felt the same about The Four Winds. It seems to have become her formula, and it makes her writing predictable and manipulative, as she tries for a tearjerker.

JamieArc That‘s exactly why I don‘t read her… 4d
fredthemoose My main takeaway from The Four Winds was that there was just too much misery porn. Thanks for the review—I‘ll probably skip this one 4d
Lesliereadsalot I‘m with you on this one. 3d
TheAromaofBooks Great review!! 3d
Bookbuyingaddict Great 👍 review totally agree ! I thought it was just me ! Instead of a strong female lead she‘s made her a tragic figure which is a shame as it takes away the main focus of how truly pointless awful and horrific the Vietnam war like all wars , was (edited) 2d

I'm pretty sure this #DoubleSpin has been the best #BookSpin book I've read so far. It started a little rough, and I wasn't sure where the story was going, but after a couple of chapters, it started making sense. I've enjoyed everything I've read by McLean, so I'm not all that surprised.
