I usually love Maeve Binchy, but I found this collection of short stories to be full of unlikeable characters and dreadful situations. People who were unkind, jealous, petty, cheating…and very little redemption. There were a few stories that were lovely, but they were outnumbered. I really considered not finishing, which is very rare for me. I‘m glad that I didn‘t give up on it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This was my #doublespin for January. @TheAromaofBooks

This has been on my TBR forever and I finally read it because it‘s my #DoubleSpin for January. I enjoyed this though it wasn‘t really a spy novel in the way I expected. It‘s more about a woman and the choices she makes and how they match those of her sister. The device of her writing this to her sons as she goes off on a dangerous mission means it ends without resolution.

Bailedbailed

My pledge this year is to not waste time on books I don‘t enjoy. Both of these have been on my tbr shelf forever…and #bookspin and #doublespin has cleared them. I bailed on them both.

BarbaraBB That‘s a relief 😉 18h
TheAromaofBooks So good to get those kinds of books of the shelf - ones I feel guilty about not at least giving a chance, even when I am pretty sure I'm not going to like them! I had someone do a bingo list last year comprised entirely of titles she thought she was going to bail on and she cleared all 25 off her shelves that month!!! 6h

This book is really good, but I have to take it in really slowly - a hard balance to strike when I'm assigned 3-4 chapters a day for my intensive course. 😅 Listening to the audiobook and then rereading in the print book has been helpful for engaging deeply - although, audiobookers be warned, there are a lot of meaty footnotes left out! #DoubleSpin

Cathythoughts Beautiful title 10h

This is an absolute must for any cat owner. It's filled with great practical advice and trouble shooting. I wouldn't necessarily suggest reading cover to cover, use it more like a reference book

⭐⭐⭐1/2 (It's more than So-So but not a Pick)
I went into this book with very high hopes (the fake dating trope is one of my favourites) that in the end were not met. This novel just falls into the average romance category for me..

I was intrigued by the premise of this one: What happens when the chosen one fails? It turns out his BFF tries to take up the cause and get the job done. I loved Aaslo the reluctant hero as he tries to amass the allies needed to save the world despite the prophecy proclaiming doom without the chosen one. It did end with a bit of a cliff hanger which wasn't too fun but I think this is still a series I'll continue with.

Nelnjali I really enjoyed this book too. The sequel got delayed, but last I heard it is supposed to be coming out in March! 2d

My January #doublespin! I've had this book on my shelf forever, and even though I've seen the movie, I was surprised how much I liked this book. I'll admit that I find the relationship between Michael and Hanna "icky"...yet I couldn't put this book down.

I finished my #DoubleSpin pick this month! I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. It was sort of a coming of age novel about a 36-year-old who should have already grown up. He sees everyone being adults around him, and it seems to make him angry, until he realizes how that could be just as important to him as his record collection and knowledge of music.

Ruthiella I read this in my early read thirties and loved it. Timing might have been key! 😆 2d
