I appreciated the quirkiness of the main character, although I'm not sure it wasn't a little over-the-top at times. I definitely felt the reason for her anxiety. The mystery was compelling.

This book is eventually a good thriller about a woman who‘s trying to figure out what is really going on at her office. But it takes it‘s time getting there, first taking it‘s time developing her character: a woman with OCD (though this is not explicitly stated) who overlaps a fantasy world from a Korean children‘s book with reality. I ended up enjoying it, but I had to be patient and stick with it.
Often I read books/listen to audiobooks to distance myself from real life, but this one I kept coming back to because I wanted to spend more time with anxious, flawed Katrina in a world where bad things happen to good people, but where good things also happen. It's a place where hunches and a strong fantasy life (or mental illness... potato, potahto) can lead a person to truths that help them do the right thing (eventually).
I'm driving my spouse to the airport for a work trip to London shortly, and I'm trying to decide which audiobook I should listen to on the way home to distract me both from being sad that he'll be away and from being jealous that he's going to London. (I'm jealous of him *being* in London, not as much of the 11 hours in premium economy that gets him there.)
This one is slightly 🍌👖. The narrator is full on hallucinating for a good part of the novel. I actually found this way more enjoyable once I stopped trying to read it before bed. The mystery itself is very good. It's hard to unravel the clues with an unreliable narrator so I just let this flow along. Glad this was my #Aardvark pick for Feb.

A wild, engrossing ride exploring mental health, and life's complexities. It explores the fragility of mental health in such a readable way. Dong's writing is very immersive as we get pulled into Katrina's world. I was captivated by our heroine, who was wonderfully done, as she is grasping to control her life but it's already spiraling more and more out of control. The mental health elements mixed with the thriller elements really worked for me!
#Aardvark selection. This was just what I was in the mood for. And I'm definitely feeling this purple cover. 💜

So I have a whole long list of new release TBR's but I've gotten distracted by this bizarre gem of a coming-of-age with mental illness/ stalker thriller lol. I don't know much yet other than it's a debut and it's captured my attention more than many of the bigger name new releases that I couldn't even manage finishing! I will update when I know more.
