Map: Collected and Last Poems | Wislawa Szymborska
10 posts | 8 read | 2 reading | 8 to read
A new collected volume from the Nobel Prizewinning poet that includes, for the first time in English, all of the poems from her last Polish collection One of Europes greatest recent poets is also its wisest, wittiest, and most accessible. Nobel Prizewinner Wislawa Szymborska draws us in with her unexpected, unassuming humor. Her elegant, precise poems pose questions we never thought to ask. If you want the world in a nutshell, a Polish critic remarks, try Szymborska. But the world held in these lapidary poems is larger than the one we thought we knew. Carefully edited by her longtime, award-winning translator, Clare Cavanagh, the poems in Map trace Szymborskas work until her death in 2012. Of the approximately two hundred and fifty poems included here, nearly forty are newly translated; thirteen represent the entirety of the poets last Polish collection, Enough, never before published in English. Map is the first English publication of Szymborskas work since the acclaimed Here, and it offers her devoted readers a welcome return to her ironic elegance (The New Yorker).

My son found this book of poetry in Maria Popova‘s Marginalian. I am just opening the book & choosing a poem by title, not consistently reading. I am in awe. #poetry

Went to the bookstore and came across a poetry collection I read and loved a few years back. It's called Map by Wislawa Szymborska. This is my favorite poem of hers. Its crushing to feel like we've just put wars to bed for another one to creep up and I really hope things settle down instead.

Until I get #MyShot at a job, I‘m trying to enjoy my time by reading, reading, reading 🙌 I haven‘t felt in the mood for a proper novel the past few days, so my current reads consist of a poetry collection, a book about what we should value in our current society, and then I‘m listening to the audio of The Amber Spyglass 📚

#MusicalNewYear #Currentlyreading

Sarah83 Is it so difficult to find a job for you? 🙄 6y
Kalalalatja @Sarah83 it is. I have been unemployed for a little over 6 months now. The problem is there is a lot of competition right after Summer, because so many students finish uni, but I‘m hoping it will get easier now 🤞 6y
Sarah83 I hope it won't last so much longer. 🤞 Even if it means much reading time for you. 😊 6y

Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @emilyhaldi @vivastory @TrishB thanks guys! Hopefully, it won‘t be too much longer, cause while I love all the reading time, I hate the uncertainty more 🙅‍♀️ 6y

Celebrate #NationalPoetryMonth with a Nobel Laureate in Literature! This book was on three of my reading challenges; #ReadHarder2017 book of translated poems not about love, #LetterM of #LitsyAtoZ, and Reading #NobelWomen. Since its everything she's published, not all are absolute genius, but the later work definitely was. Some took my breath away. A list of faves was on my blog review here: http://wp.me/p6D5Ti-4NJ
