Antimatter Blues
Antimatter Blues: A Mickey7 Novel | Edward Ashton
18 posts | 12 read | 4 to read
Edward Ashton's Antimatter Blues is the thrilling follow up to Mickey7 in which an expendable heads out to explore new terrain for human habitation. Summer has come to Niflheim. The lichens are growing, the six-winged bat-things are chirping, and much to his own surprise, Mickey Barnes is still alivethat last part thanks almost entirely to the fact that Commander Marshall believes that the colonys creeper neighbors are holding an antimatter bomb, and that Mickey is the only one whos keeping them from using it. Mickeys just another colonist now. Instead of cleaning out the reactor core, he spends his time these days cleaning out the rabbit hutches. Its not a bad life. Its not going to last. It may be sunny now, but winter is coming. The antimatter that fuels the colony is running low, and Marshall wants his bomb back. If Mickey agrees to retrieve it, hell be giving up the only thing thats kept his head off of the chopping block. If he refuses, he might doom the entire colony. Meanwhile, the creepers have their own worries, and theyre not going to surrender the bomb without getting something in return. Once again, Mickey finds the fate of two species resting in his hands. If something goes wrong this time, though, he wont be coming back.

My book pick for October #blues #titlesandtunes is Antimatter Blues by Edward Ashton. Did you know they're turning this into a movie with Robert Pattinson playing Mickey (The title is Mickey 17)?

My pick for a song is Blue Monday by Orgy (I like the remake better than the original)

Mickey7 is back…and I‘m not sure if I even like Mickey as a character. I guess he does have his moments. I know I didn‘t love Mickey in the 1st book, so why did I listen to the 2nd book? If I had to guess…it was probably the cover. I‘m a sucker for a pretty cover and this one is gorgeous. The plot was a touch aimless and the negotiations felt like they went on forever…but as a whole, it was thematically solid.👊

I enjoyed the first book, Mickey7 and was excited to read the follow up. This second book didn't disappoint. I loved that Mickey7 was still around after two years. But of course, that just means more problems and adventures for him. Really good pacing and I liked how the plot unfolded. 4.5⭐️

Second book about Mickey7, I thought better than the first. Now I'm intrigued about the movie, although did not invision R. Patterson as Mickey7, would not have been my pick 🧐

My kind of speculative/sci fi fiction, all about the questions and the choices. I find myself seizing upon the same point as I did for the first book in this series: strong commentary on the value of life. That being said, I think I enjoyed this one quite a bit more. I didn't see several of the last stand out moments coming, and it made all the difference. Not simply action and triumph - meaningful, quiet gestures showing positive growth, change.

I cannot recommend these books highly enough! Anyone who enjoys Andy Weir will definitely like these books. Funny and witty, I hope there's more to come. I can't wait to see what they do with the movie. #highlyrecommend

What a fantastic sequel! This second book in the #Mickey7Series opens up two years after the conclusion of the first book. Mickey finds that he must retrieve what he thought safe and this brings about a lot more interactions between the colonists and the original inhabitants of their new planet. I love the world-building, the characters and the humor- along with the excitement and adventure in this #SciFi novel! I can‘t wait for the next book!

Just a few days ago it was cold outside. There was snow and then rain. Today it's the first day that feels like spring. We've been sitting outside for two hours already.

WriteForwardCoaching The weather really needs to make up its mind. The back and forth has been driving me crazy. If I am going to suffer from seasonal allergies I want to at least be able to enjoy the warmth 🤣 2y

This was such a fun read. Antimatter Blues is a science fiction story where you follow Mickey7, who is an expendable heading out to explore the new world for the human habitation. The world building was excellent. It was lighthearted, humorous and the characters were easy to follow and enjoy. They each had their own charm.

This one is definitely for all the science fiction lovers, and would appeal to Andy Weir fans.
