July 10, 2024 Got a chance to hop into Books Inc at Laurel Village today and browsed but came upon this Vietnamese author. I read American Born Chinese and this book reminded me of that one. I LOVE THE GRAPHICS!!! I do not tend to read graphic novels, but when it is based on an ethnic group (e.g. Vietnamese family coming to build a more positive home in America) I could not resist!!! Every part of the book is very vivid and one can easily follow
A sweet memoir about immigrants from Vietnam pursuing the American dream, with memories, both good and bad, captured in the tastes of food.
In other words... It's “Dreamy steamy“! #FourFoursin24 perfection! 😁
Also book #4 in the #BookChain : title has few words than the last book. #BookSpinBingo : book stacked on Litsy.
This fits several #URC prompts, so we'll see where it ends up eventually.
This book is phenomenal and everyone should read it. I LOVED it SO MUCH! 💗😍
This is so so good 💗💗💗
This book made me cry. It‘s so good. And I‘m so hungry now.
I loved this beautiful graphic memoir about Thien‘s journey to the USA from Vietnam. It is structured around different foods and what they mean to him and shows how they are tied so tightly to important memories and carry sometimes complex emotions.
This is a graphic novel memoir of the author‘s life from leaving Vietnam as a refugee as a young child to his move to the US soon after and through adulthood to mid-life. The story was good and I liked how each chapter focused on a different developmental age or life transition. Overall the art was good; only complaint is that it was very hard to tell the author apart from the other children until you get to the teen years.
Libby borrow. Looks interesting! I like a memoir with food involved.
This graphic memoir gave me a serious craving for Vietnamese cuisine! Pham tells the story of his family‘s immigration to the US and the challenges they faced while working towards the American Dream. He does so through food and the memories tied to it. The respect, gratitude and admiration he has for his parents, especially his mother, really shines through.
