(1972) First (in the sense of series chronology, not the first written) in the author's series about Elric, the world-weary reluctant emperor of a dying civilization who would rather brood over his books than lead a nation. (Mm, one sympathizes.) In this one, Elric deals with a usurper, rescues his love, and acquires the cursed sword Stormbringer. I tried this series when I was in high school, but bounced off. This time, no bounce: more please.
It is the color of a bleached skull, his flesh; and the long hair which flows below his shoulders is milk-white.

These were some of my first steps into the world of fantasy and fangirling. Ohhh how young was I
Haha. I believe I named one of my Dungeons & Dragons characters after Rackhir. I was one cool cat back in the ‘70s. 📖🤓❤️
Reading the new and beautiful Centipede Press edition. I don‘t know how many times I read the ‘70s paperbacks or the ‘80s book club editions. Then I read the White Wolf omnibus editions as part of The Tale of the Eternal Champion. The cycle recycles.
Centipede Press‘ new edition of Elric sold out 300 signed copies in 2 hours today. But it‘s my birthday month, precious, and we wanted it. 💸💸💸 (note: photo is of the White Wolf edition of The Tale of the Eternal Champion)
While it starts a little slow, it turned into a rollicking adventure, with sword fights, sea battles, demons and elder gods. Elric is Moorcock's most tragic eternal champion, and at times his self pity get a bit much, but overall it's someone whose story I want to continue to follow. On to Book II - The Sailor On The Seas of Fate.
I've wanted to dive into the Elric saga for awhile now. Moorcock tends to be a writer people either love or hate. I loved the Chronicles of Corum so I have high hopes for this. Cool the way the covers fit together to create a design motif.
Legends are best left as legends and attempts to make them real are rarely successful.

Elric of Melniboné and his sentient sword, Stormbringer, are pretty much the first things that pop into my head when I think #Warriors.
Elric might not be the strongest - but I sure as hell wouldn't wanna cross paths with him. A true warrior isn't just strength of arm but cunning as well. Elric has plenty of both.

I read only a few of Elric's stories and a long time ago. They are weird and different.
Not many heroes (or even anti-heros) have a drug problem. That was particularly true when for fantasy characters when these stories were written in the 1970s
All day I've heard their clamorous screams of "Pick me!" Torak, Lord Foul, Master Eremis, Snow, Quilp, Dracula, DuVac, the Adderhead, Angus Thermopyle, Baron Harkonnen... Finally, I chose Elric: he's his own worst enemy; kept alive by a soul devouring sword that enjoys the souls of his friends & loved ones even more than those of his enemies. He's both villain & champion; the ultimate antihero. #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge #favevillain
