This book about volunteer missing persons searchers and investigators on the PCT was fascinating. It was sobering, but so descriptive it made me want to head out west and hike.

Last day of #ForTheLoveofBooks Readathon. I read something this morning about how avocado toast is not a great for you breakfast so of course that‘s the only thing I could think about eating.

I thought I would finish this book yesterday but I still have 100 pages left. My plan is to finish before we leave for a hike in a couple of hours 🤞

Day 3 of the #ForTheLoveOfBooks Readathon. I brought out my fall mugs and I‘m celebrating with cake for breakfast. Hopefully I‘ll finish this book today.

Very interesting read about searching for missing people on the Pacific Crest Trail. Somewhat informative about the process, law enforcement, and what it entails in terms of man power, cost, and emotional up and downs.
This book puts forward the hard work by volunteers.
Can be repetitive at times, and hard to follow the different cases.

After listening to this book last week, my library copy hold came in. I like seeing the pictures after listening and after flipping through the physical copy, I kinda wish I read it rather than listened in this case 😂

My son is planning a thru-hike next summer on this trail and I‘ve taken a few backpacking adventures on the Appalachian Trail so I enjoyed learning about the Pacific Crest Trail and search & rescue. My son is looking at National Park and/or Forest careers and possibly search & rescue so it was a great way to explore what a career like this would look like. My heart breaks for the families of the missing.

Listened to this on audio while working this week. I enjoyed it a lot! I found it so interesting. I‘m not outdoorsy in the least but I can appreciate why people hike these trails. Not that you‘ll ever talk me into it 😂 But yeah, fascinating and heartbreaking all the while

I‘m not sure what to say about this book without giving away spoilers. It‘s a nonfiction, the Pacific Crest Trail, lost hikers, and while it was not an easy subject it was a fascinating book.

Reminiscent of The Cold Vanish which I was a fan of..I‘m always intrigued by the mysteries involving those who‘ve vanished in the wilderness. Trail of the Lost is the story of the author‘s experience assisting with the searches of 3 missing hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail. Each missing hiker was a young man who disappeared around 2016. Family members searching become main characters. Don‘t read for a neat conclusion but for the search.

Fascinating and frustrating. This non-fiction story does not wrap up neatly. That being said, the story is very interesting and informative. I was engaged until the very end. Recommend for those who enjoy nature/mysteries/ nonfiction.

What a heartbreaking and inspiring book. 3 hikers disappear from the PCT over the course of a few years and the author tells the story how their families deal with the loss and connect with others who feel compelled to help in the search.

Fascinating read! I loved this one.

I'm not a hiker, but I can understand the pull of those seeking connection with the natural world. Andrea Lankford did a thorough job with her research about three missing hikers and the search to find out what happened to them. She delves into the culture around the hiking world and doesn't shy away from discussing the terrible accidents that can easily claim a hiker's life.

Using her formal SAR knowledge, former NPS Ranger Lankford informally helps families with searches for missing hikers, especially after formal searches have ceased. Here, she keys in on 3 missing hikers and tells the story of the efforts to find them. This is a really interesting look at the ways people can go missing and the things that are helpful in searching vs not. Plus, the writing is very engaging.
