My main goal for this lovely sunny Saturday was to celebrate Love Your Bookstore Day by finding two penguin books to buy so that I could get a Personal Penguin. I was perusing the shelves, by publisher logo, with such a serious expression that a bookseller asked me if I was ok? 🤣 I don‘t usually notice who publishers the books I read but today‘s lesson was that it‘s generally not Penguin 😅 but I found two to take home eventually!
Murder thrillers are perfect for October reading🔪
Rated both of these 4⭐️‘s each
This I s a fun young adult mystery that, while rather predictable and cliche was nevertheless enjoyable. I liked the dual point of views used to tell the story, along with the flashbacks to that fateful night. I do believe that the story could have been executed a little better; young adult novels have become substantially better over the last few years and this one didn‘t fully hit the mark, but it was still a fun story.

-The family secrets at play here were layered and quite possibly stacked.
-While I didn‘t enjoy it as much as How To Survive Your Murder, I still found it engaging.
-That ending was crazy…but what does it mean, I mean seriously, I have so many questions now.

-This dipped its toes into the too-much-y-not-enough-a-for-me zone.
-The romance was “cutely” convenient.
This is a great concept, but it just didn't work the best. There was no depth to the characters, all we got was basic information about them, and then we were practically thrown into non-stop action. I was on the edge of my seat through the book, but by the end I couldn't tell if I liked the story or not. It left a lot to be desired. But, if you are looking for something quick that isn't too deep, then I would recommend this.
For anyone that likes murder mystery set at campsites this would be a good book for them. This is the 2nd book I have read by Danielle Valentine & I would not hesitate to pick up another book by her. She keeps you guessing. This book leaves you with the question of could there be a 2nd book? I for one would be up for that! I just enjoyed the storyline and the way the book was written. I love a good mystery & this did not disappoint at all for me.
