Fair Food
Fair Food: Growing a Healthy, Sustainable Food System for All | Oran B. Hesterman
7 posts | 3 to read
Our food system is broken, and its endangering whats most precious to us: our environment, our health, our soil and water, and our future. In recent years, a host of books and films have compellingly documented the dangers. But advice on what to do about them largely begins and ends with the admonition to "eat local or "eat organic. Longtime good food pioneer Oran Hesterman knows that we cant fix the broken system simply by changing whats on our own plates: the answer lies beyond the kitchen. In Fair Food he shares an inspiring and practical vision for changing not only what we eat, but how food is grown, packaged, delivered, marketed, and sold. He introduces people and organizations across the country who are already doing this work in a number of creative ways, and provides a wealth of practical information for readers who want to get more involved.

Summer blew by, classes start up next week, and I realized I never finished the book for my Sustainable Nutrition course! The concept of the book is interesting but the execution of it so far is not sparking my interest. Going to try and finish at least half of it before Monday! 😭 #gradschoolreads

It‘s been a while! I‘ve been very tired lately, even too tired to read! (Say what?!) Currently in the process of changing my diet and cutting caffeine (oh, the horror!) which makes me cranky but I said I would try it. 🤷‍♀️ Except, my Starbucks dragonfruit refresher said “lightly caffeinated” so I‘m cheating a little today. 😉

Meanwhile, I jumped back into “Fair Food” and I find it boring :/ I hope it picks up, it seems very interesting!

1. Jamie and Claire (Outlander)/ Mr. Rochester and Jane Eyre 😍
2. Bella and Edward (Twilight). Ugh.
3. Tom and Sybil (Downton Abbey).
4. Prince William and Kate!

Doing some “getting ahead” for my classes in the fall. One class is in Sustainable Nutrition, and I saw on the required books list that this was one of them, so of course I jumped on it! 👍 #mondayreads

ugh, I want to read the rest, but only have the first 2 chapters that were assigned readings for a class I'm taking (illegal photocopies). Might have to buy this one! So far, none of this is "new" information to me, but I do want to read the farmer success stories that supposedly follow. #nerdproblems

If you live in the right place and have enough money, it can appear that the food system is functioning just fine. Just like the health care system seems to function for those of us who have decent insurance and access to competent medical care.
