Christmas - Philosophy for Everyone: Better Than a Lump of Coal | 
so-soThis reminded me of why I hated philosophy in college so many years ago. These scholarly types love to beat dead horses repeatedly instead of getting to the point. There are essays on the origins of Christmas, the Christmas Nativity, Santa, Christmas consumerism, and related pop culture. I thought this would be “fun.” It did have its moments. I really enjoyed essays in the latter half of the book that were more cheeky in their subject matter.
JoeMo For example there were essays using A Christmas Carol to convey the positive effects of the modern holiday and another using A Christmas Story to debate if the holiday complete with Santa has positive or negative effects on children. There‘s one pushing for elves‘ rights who are exploited by an evil boss! I really loathed certain essays though, and I feel that viewpoints the differ from mine could have been more effectively represented. (edited) 7d
