BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Mary Balogh's The Secret Mistress. Meet the Bedwynssix brothers and sistersmen and women of passion and privilege, daring and sensualityEnter their dazzling world of high society and breathtaking seductionwhere each will seek love, fight temptation, and court scandaland where Aidan Bedwyn, the marriage-shy second son, discovers that matrimony may be the most seductive act of all. Like all the Bedwyn men, Aidan has a reputation for cool arrogance. But this proud nobleman also possesses a loyal, passionate heartand it is this fierce loyalty that has brought Colonel Lord Aidan to Ringwood Manor to honor a dying soldier's request. Having promised to comfort and protect the man's sister, Aidan never expected to find a headstrong, fiercely independent woman who wants no part of his protectionnor did he expect the feelings this beguiling creature would ignite in his guarded heart. And when a relative threatens to turn Eve out of her home, Aidan gallantly makes her an offer she can't refuse: marry himif only to save her home. And now, as all of London breathlessly awaits the transformation of the new Lady Aidan Bedwyn, the strangest thing happens: With one touch, one searing embrace, Aidan and Eve's business arrangement is about to be transformedinto something slightly surprising.

I don‘t read much Regency Romance these days but picked this one up on a LT rec: Eve is a country woman who finds herself in a marriage of convenience to a career soldier. It‘s fairly slow and clearly the author did some research on the period; More of a true romance than a sexy read; but the scenes are painterly in description and, the end left me a little teary and thinking of bluebells fondly (I so didn‘t see the “feels” creep up on me!) ❤️

I barely managed to finish this slow-moving and predictable romantic tale. The overstated source of conflict is the characters‘ own reservations about the nature of the relationship. This drags on to the second to last chapter, relieved only by information about characters to be featured in future novels.

Swooning- another historical #romantsy - a marriage of convenience becomes the real thing. Predictable but enjoyable nonetheless 💜 thanks again Hoopla for a great audiobook.

I started reading the Bedwyn saga last year and just completely forgot about the series. So I have bought the rest of the series and now I‘m rereading book 1 to get this party started!

"There is something infinitely better than happily ever after. There is happiness. Happiness is a living, dynamic thing, Eve, and has to be worked on every moment for the rest of our lives. It is a far more exciting prospect than that silly static idea of a happily ever after."

Fell a little flat at times for me, but a pleasant enough diversion as far as historical romances go (and a perfect accompaniment for the raucous bachelorette weekend I was just at 😁) #romantsy
