pickI finally finished this behemoth. It was lent to me by a friend and it was good.. ish? I give it a 3.5/5. I loved the character building of Maria, independent Maltese peasant caught between her duty to her father and her desire to escape the island. I also loved the story of Nico, her Christian brother abducted, who ends up a respected Muslim commander in the Sultan‘s fleet. I only wish there was last battle and more character development.
I seem to be spending a lot of time in coffee shops lately. I‘m so grateful to have time to savour begin alone. 💛🌿
