Salvatore tells the story of Cadderly, a cleric (in the D&D sense) who initially lacks faith in his god and has a more inquisitive mind than his masters appreciate. The first two books involve a gradual escalation, while the most dramatic character development happens in the third book. The fourth book serves as a climax and the fifth book as a sort of coda. Cadderly's love interest, Danica, amd the, villain Ghost are great characters.
