Soft pick. I did not really care for Amity, the MC. Yes, she‘s a globetrotting independent female in the Victorian era, but she‘s also hopelessly naive in some ways. Benedict, the male MC, also makes assumptions about Amity‘s “experiences” that are a bit insulting, at least to me. However, the suspenseful part of the novel involves a serial killer, a la Jack the Ripper, which was intriguing. Add a few twists, and the suspense was compelling.
