Light finder is a story about a young Cree woman named Aisling. After her brother runs away she goes on a journey to look for him with help from her grandmother and others. If you like fantasy books that delve into mythology and you wanna know more about the Cree mythology than this is the book for you. A recurring motif throughout the story is neglect and isolation. In the book this is important as it is the main driving force to Eric's actions
Aisling and her family begin a desperate race against time to find Eric and lead him back to the right path before the forces of evil can bend his gifts for a darker purpose. Part 3
Aisling, the older sister, is identified by the power and begins to be indoctrinated into her long forgotten birthright. Eric, her younger brother begins to spiral downward due to neglect, abuse and isolation, all too common in the First Nations community. He is befriended by a strange youth who seems all too eager to lead him astray. Part 2
Light finder is a really nice book, I liked it. It tells the story of two cree youth who are divided by a broken home. The legacy of colonization and the crippling social effects of the residential school era are apparent when the youth begin to discover mystical powers their parents. Part 1
Learning about First Nations through literature. Just the beginning.
More beautiful drawings in this Cree YA fantasy! #IndigenousLit
There are some beautiful atmospheric drawings in this novel done by the author.
Very intrigued so far by this YA fantasy by Cree author Aaron Paquette. They're still in the "real world" but I'm guessing that's about to change...
#signedsunday - This is my stack of signed books from Word On The Street in Lethbridge yesterday. All such great authors !! If you are looking to add diversity to your reading, I highly recommend Aaron Paquette! Lightfinder is his first novel, which won a 2015 Burt Award for First Nations, Metis and Inuit Literature. He is super nice and an incredibly talented artist as well!! Check him out here: http://www.aaronpaquette.net
