I liked it well enough, interesting premise. I guess it if a series, however, I most likely won't continue with it. There's at least 6 books and I ain't got time for all that.

"Popularity is neither fame nor greatness. A king (as such) is not a great man. He has great power, but it is not his own. He merely wields the lever of state, which a child, an idiot or a madman can do. It is the office, not the man we gaze at. Any one else in the same situation would be just as much as object of abject curiosity."
- The Indian Juggler, William Hazlitt

I meant to read this for #FoodandLit #SouthKorea but never did! I was slightly apprehensive about keeping people & events straight (it is a 17th-c. novel with stories inside stories). It's still early days, but it's been fine so far. Even fun! The end-notes are quite helpful...

I read this book with my online book group, the theme being witches/wizards. It‘s an interesting story inspired by the Pendle Witch Trials. It‘s very well researched and written. I did find it a bit plodding, however, and it‘s full of misery! Too much hardship and suffering. I was very pleased to turn the last page. And I can‘t wait to start something more cheerful!
5 Stars • In Merivel: A Man of His Time by Rose Tremain, sequel to Restoration, aging physician Robert Merivel faces a midlife crisis in 17th-century England. Struggling with financial woes and a quest for purpose, he fails at Louis XIV‘s court, navigates personal losses, and deepens ties with his daughter and King Charles II. The novel blends humor and pathos, exploring mortality and redemption.
