Kent writes a fictional tale about her ancestor, told from the perspective of one of Martha‘s daughters, that is harrowing and haunting. I loved this book - a little different narration wise, but it leaves such an impact. #heretic #NoFemmeber

This is a unique take on the Salem Witch Trials because it‘s a fictionalized version of family lore; the author is a tenth generation descendent of Martha Carrier, one of the first women to be hung for refusing to admit she was a witch. I felt the love and passion that went into the research and retelling of this interesting historical fiction novel.

Finally had a chance to finish listening to this one at work... This is the story of Sarah Carrier and the lives of her friends, family, and foes. Several key players that we are used to hearing about, but we most commonly run into Mercy Lewis during this account. At times, I felt like it dragged on. And I hated the music played at Chapter breaks. It seemed so out of place. Overall, probably a 3 or 3.5🌟 rating.

Trying to finish this audiobook while #audiostitching. Got the fire crackling on the screen.

I reread this earlier this year and was captivated again by Kent's writing style. The Salem Witch Trials is a tragic event in US history that showed the cruelty & overall general paranoia people feel when faced with difficult circumstances. Kent writes a fiction of her ancestor, Martha Carey, who was convicted of witchcraft and executed. There are parts of this book that mirror what is taking place today. So scary, so timely, so good. #35bookparty

Just as good the second time around...Kent's first novel is rich in historic detail. She has the ability to take the reader into life in 1690s Massachusetts. A harrowing and haunting story about one of the families targeted during the Salem Witch Trials. Glad I had an opportunity to reread this one!

As I'm re-reading this, I can't help but think of events taking place in the world right now. Scary, very scary indeed.

If I could give this more than "pick" I would. Such a moving story about a family devastated by the Salem witch trials. Told through the eyes of an eleven year old, the narrator, as an adult, reflects back on that harrowing time. Descriptions are haunting (ugh...the jail). The emotion of those falsely accused is palpable. The images created by this author will stay with me. Highly recommend. Listen on audio if you can, because...Mare Winningham ❤️

Re-reading this for the upcoming historical fiction discussion at my library. Enjoyed it when I read it back in 2008; see if my opinion changes in almost 10 years!

Found a book at the library for #bookface! #readjanuary

I thought I would adore this book because I am fascinated with the Salem Witch Trials and the heresy and fear surrounding the time period. Any woman asserting any independence or free thinking would be accused. However, the story never reeled me in and I kept trying and hoping to get invested in the story, but I never could. I would LOVE some recs though for hist fic dealing with witchcraft in the time period if you have any!!

I decided to go with some sarcasm as all of these daughters sound like they must be the #bestkids ever! #octphotochallenge.

I wasn't excited about this one at all, but it sucked me in.

Here is my suggestion for #Recommendsday. I love this book. If you like historical fiction, especially about the Salem witch trials, this is a wonderful book for you. It's also a great book about the relationship between mothers and daughters. I know that a few of you bailed on Stacy Schiff's Witches, which is in my TBR. Perhaps this will be a good substitute!
