A re-re-reread (with a few more re‘s) of this Heyer mystery set in a small British village. I love the small cast of unique characters. Mrs. M with her “U” named pekes, the rascally, aged ex-poacher, the whole enthusiastic Ditchling brood, so many that make this a humorous read - and the mystery is good too! Who shot Sampson Warrenby in his garden? No one has an alibi…

Librarybelle I like that cover! 3mo
mabell @Librarybelle And like most Heyer covers, completely unrelated to the story 😂 3mo

mabell @Gissy Oh a lot! I‘ve lost count 🤣 2mo
CarolynM This is one I haven‘t read yet. Looking forward to it even more now😀 2mo
mabell @CarolynM I think you‘ll like it! It is a fun change to have the story take place in a village where you meet more of the inhabitants. 2mo

This is a light pick for me—I got the overall gist of the story, but sometimes struggled with what exactly was going on. Dystopian is not my typical genre, but given its ties to current day issues, I knew I had to read this with the #RandomClassics group. I am glad I read it. #192025 #1953

TheAromaofBooks I'm getting ready to finish this one today, but on the whole it's a little too much like a weird dream for me to really like it 😂 3mo
Librarybelle @TheAromaofBooks I like that analogy! 😂 3mo

It‘s been years since I read this one, and it was interesting to reread and see what I remembered. (I did forget whodunit) I enjoyed having all the super sleuths in one book!

#1953 for #192025

mabell Correction - #1936 - I have no idea why I thought #1953! 4mo
Librarybelle Hooray! I think I read this one a long time ago…I hope to read it (again) sometime soon! 4mo

Naturally a book about Jane and Prudence. Jane is a 40 something vicar‘s wife who doesn‘t behave as your stereotypical vicar‘s wife and tend to say the wrong thing. Prudence is in her late 20s and enjoying her love affairs. Two friends with not much in common.

I just love Pym‘s snarkiness and wit and her writing that‘s just to the point.

AnneCecilie #1953 #192025 @Librarybelle I don‘t believe in feeling guilty about my reads or music, but still I chose this for #GuiltyPleasure for its comfiness and I was in the mood for some Pym. As for my song I was thinking of some Taylor Swift, Glitch is fitting for some of the things that happen in the book, but Paris is my favorite city. @BarbaraBB @Cinfhen (edited) 1y
Cuilin I loved this Pym too. 1y

Librarybelle Nice! I plan to read another novel by Pym… 1y
AnneCecilie @Librarybelle I want to read that too, I basically want to read all the Pym. My next Pym will be A Glass of Blessings with #PemberLittens #HashtagBrigade in November. 1y
Librarybelle I forgot about that! Unless I get to the one I tagged above before November, I‘ll be reading A Glass of Blessings as my next Pym! 1y

Mehso-so

Bookout bug! If you “pause” the timer stops on the screen—but it still adds the paused time. Yesterday I read 121 pages at 70+ pages/hour. Today I utilized “pause”. This book actually took me about 3 hours. It was very quick and quite misogynistic—not that that surprised me. From page 159: “the conquest of her body, because of the central privacy in her, would each time have the sweet tang of rape.” WTF “sweet tang”. 😡 #1001books #192019 #1953
