pickBook nine of my attempt to read all of the #2016nbaficlonglist. Short but packs a punch. Woodson has masterfully crafted a vibrant world covering many issues--gentrification, drug use, poverty, war--in this book about growing up. Spectacular.
pickThis was a lovely Western about a man who travels Texas reading news aloud from faraway places, and he comes across a young girl kidnapped by the Kiowa and has to return her to her family. Book 8 of my #2016nbaficlonglist challenge, and I think this one is a sleeper pick to win it all. That said, it's not my personal top choice, but it's still quite beautiful and good, and I would recommend it!
pickBook six of my #2016nbaficlonglist reading challenge. I've already returned it to the library, so no picture. This book is raw, beautiful, heartbreaking. I loved Greenwell's writing style of long sentences and paragraphs which makes you feel as if you're immersed in the narrator's brain. It's about rejection and connection, and of feeling disconnected from those you love. Really effective.
