It's time to play...let's catch up with the #bookphotochallenge(s): the #Booktober edition!

What?!? It's the same book! 😱 Didn't I mention this was her #DebutNovel as well as a great #ClassicCharacter & #AntiHeroOrFlawedCharacter for the other challenge. Oops! Props to Mary Shelley, who won the writing challenge among friends & got a story that's endured through the ages!

RestingBodiceFace Oh my gosh… I used to love the 2/$1 books at Walmart! I discovered so many great classics this way. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @RestingBodiceFace I know! My local Walmart's book selection really sticks now. 8y

It's time to play...let's catch up with the #bookphotochallenge(s): the #OctPhotoChallenge edition! Since it's the month of Oct I'm going to go for a Halloween themed #ClassicCharacter that has also become a great #AntiHeroOrFlawedCharacter. When writers sat around challenging each other to write a scary story, I'm sure none of them guessed that Mary's would endure this long, and be translated into so many versions & adaptions. Indeed a classic!

I'm fascinated by imperfect characters who rise above their flaws or, better yet, use their flaws to achieve some kind of victory that a more virtuous character couldn't pull off. Michael Moorcock's Elric is one of my favourite anti-heroes, but Stephen Donaldson has to be the king of flawed characters: Thomas Covenant, Linden Avery, Angus Thermopyle, Morn Hyland, & countless others. #OctPhotoChallenge #AntiheroOrFlawedCharacter

Invisible Man | H G Wells

Pickpick

Subtle scifi with candid critique, written accessibly! Characters unwittingly build the story through ample self and external reflections in the unfolding discovery of humanity. Finding it difficult to cheer on the strange scientist, readers join the villagers' sometimes ethically questionable efforts to uncover the invisible man's lurid mysteries. Intellectually chilling, a recommend for fans of sci-fi, social commentary, or forewarning novels 👍

jpmcwisemorgan Excellent choice. The current BBC version of Sherlock regularly reminds people he's not an angel, just in the side of angels. 8y
