Mehso-so

This might be a good book to read for some people. If you‘ve never thought about these things before or never thought about the other side of these issues, then this could be a good book. As far as this being a philosophy book, it‘s mostly her thoughts on the issues with a little philosophy sprinkled in here and there. It‘s just not a philosophy book in and of itself.
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics The people who need to read it, that would actually get something out of it, won‘t read it. The people who will read it have already had these thoughts and will likely find that she‘s coming at the issues from a level of privilege that may be normal for the UK (though I doubt it), but is far above the average in the US. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 2w
GingerAntics It‘s not a bad book, it just wasn‘t what I was expecting from a philosophy book, and not what my philosophy group was expecting or looking for. #ArianneShahvisi #ArguingForABetterWorld #Philosophy #AdventuresInPhilosophy #DeadPhilosophersSociety 2w
TheBookHippie Perfect summary! 2w

TheBookHippie It‘s not what I thought it‘d be? I learned nada. I think it‘s from a place of privilege??? I‘m crabby 😵‍💫😝🫣😂 2w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie lol she definitely had privilege that I know I don‘t have, and many others don‘t have. I didn‘t feel like I really learned anything either. In fact, I feel like it was mostly just her thoughts, with some philosophy sprinkled in here and there. 2w

AlaSkaat I‘m way behind, just finished this yesterday. I‘ve been lost somewhere inside my days, trying to climb back up to life now. The book was alright… I agree it was mostly her thoughts… she seemed to tell us how SHE sees the world rather than building actual sound arguments. She did talk through important issues but it felt more like a ‘listen to me!‘ than a proper exploration of the issues… 2d
GingerAntics @AlaSkaat 100%! I get that feeling. I hope you‘re coming back to the surface now. 2d
AlaSkaat Thank you. I didn‘t realise how bad I was, was completely drowning. I kept reading the book but couldn‘t focus at all; I thought I was just having concentration issues! In reality I was going through a complete burnout. And I was so mad reading the book, I was in such a state that every little injustice/stupidity made me furious. I kept thinking wtf wtf every chapter ready to fight haha 2d

TheBookHippie I think we have to always be conscious of it. People with privilege do not have to think about it and they should at every turn. 3w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 100% agree… we need to be aware of the system issues, we need to uphold our own personal ethics in doing what we can, and support/encourage the people in a position to chip away at the system. 3w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie the thing about how much meat Americans eat? Ouch! The “we‘re so manly all we eat is meat” sect of toxic masculinity come to mind as massive offenders! We could all due with more veggies, but that‘s a huge price difference between hot dogs and buns vs veggies, salads, breads to make more meatless dishes. It would be a choice of hotdogs or cereal for many. 3w

TheBookHippie @GingerAntics it‘s priced that way on purpose to keep us all sick IMO… I eat vegetables only for lunch everyday and I‘m still here 🤣🤭 we eat too much meat period. Oy 3w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 100% agree. Can I PLEASE get some Alfredo WITHOUT the nasty chicken in?! I just want the Alfredo, people!!! Why is this so much to ask for?! 3w

GingerAntics I feel like this was saying what I‘ve been saying ever since people started shouting and whining about cancel culture. Before the internet, if you offended people, those people stopped talking to you and stopped including you. It‘s literally the same thing. This is nothing new. Stop whining and maybe reflect on why people don‘t want anything to do with you online. 1mo
TheBookHippie This is old as Jesus dusting his sandals off and walking away…. It‘s not a WOKE thing. It‘s integrity. 3w

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie your comment made me think of the story of an Arab guy in 1909 being declared white because the serpent court would rather call all Arabs white than say Jesus is brown. These folks have made their own Jesus who straight up never existed. I don‘t know if that story is true or not, but it certainly highlights the craziness of some folks. 3w
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics oh I‘ve heard that story too. Michelangelo painting a naked man out of desire and eroticism … WHOISTHAT oh it‘s Jesus he says…. And white Jesus continues 😵‍💫😬😳 3w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie true, but I think he just wanted to see a naked dude… he may have already had a crush on him, so he never intended to do much beyond that. 3w
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics 🤣🤣🤣🤣🎯 3w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie seriously, people. Just let people love who they love and are attracted to. Just stay up out of people‘s business. Just mind your business! 3w

Okay, so I just checked the schedule and realised I was WAY ahead. I have no idea where I got so off. Where is everyone in the book? I‘m so sorry if I got everyone confused as all get out… I am equally confused because I‘m not sure how we got here, tbh.

GingerAntics @ravenlee officially, it doesn‘t like the first person listed in a comment. @TheBookHippie it‘s not just you! 1mo
TheBookHippie I thought it was off and I‘ve misplaced my book so…. I‘ll get back to you😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️ 1mo

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie lol I have no clue how I got so far off… then again, two weeks ago I started listening to the audiobook while I was donating plasma and next thing I knew, I was at the conclusion, so maybe I listened too far a couple times? (edited) 1mo
kspenmoll Will get back to you! 1mo
GingerAntics @kspenmoll at least I‘m not the only one confused. Sorry guys. 1mo

GingerAntics This chapter has just confirmed for me that we need to stop believing white men - the richer, the less creditable… also, himpathy is my new favourite word!!! 2mo
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I feel himpathy is a. brilliant word …… ALSO white men- They know they cannot be in power unless they take everyone else‘s power away. So that‘s their daily task. 2mo
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie right?! And they assume everyone else is going to treat them as crappy as they‘ve treated everyone else all this time. It‘s a confession. They know how crappy they‘ve been. 2mo

GingerAntics In reality, yes. Socially, no. It‘s why we have to say “Black Lives Matter” in the first place! 2mo
TheBookHippie Right?!?!?! the “not all men” makes me vomit. Yes. Men. Most of them. Almost all. So sit down. 2mo
Eggbeater All lives aren't currently being treated by society as though they matter. But if you're a rich, white billionaire with a penis, you just hit the jackpot. 2mo

Deblovestoread @Eggbeater Got it in one 🎯 2mo
Amiable All lives should matter. But they don‘t. Which is why Black Lives Matter! 2mo
lil1inblue @Eggbeater 🎯🎯🎯 2mo
lil1inblue @TheBookHippie I'm so sick of not all men, too. I just say, "It's all men until it's no men." 2mo
TheBookHippie @lil1inblue 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie EXACTLY!!! Stop acting like you‘re being attacked and claiming it‘s not you, and tell a man who IS doing this crap to stop. Then we can talk. 2mo
GingerAntics @Eggbeater 🎯🎯🎯 spot on! 2mo
GingerAntics @Amiable EXACTLY!!! If Black Lives Matter or “this guy assaulted me” offends you, then maybe you should ask yourself why instead of acting like you‘re somehow offended. You‘re not offended, you‘re pissed that someone is daring to question your authority as a white person or as a man. 2mo
AnnCrystal All Lives Do Matter! Indigenous Americans highlights “All Children Matter.“

I believe that schools need to begin teaching lessons on empathy, and the necessity of being humane.
2mo
GingerAntics @AnnCrystal I totally agree! I would love to see that happen. 2mo
GingerAntics @lil1inblue @TheBookHippie Knitting Cult Lady told a story about this time she was in a local community group online, and this woman was asking for help moving because her husband was abusive and she wanted to get her and the kids out… not a single man volunteered. When asked why, every one of them said “he might hurt me.” Bro, you‘re afraid? What do you think she is? Only the women would help her. 2mo
GingerAntics @lil1inblue @TheBookHippie these are the same people who say “why didn‘t she just leave if she was so afraid of him?” 🙄 until men start calling out other men‘s behaviour, until men by default believe women when they say they‘ve been abused, until men show up for women, don‘t come at me with “not all men.” 2mo
lil1inblue @GingerAntics 🎯 🎯 🎯“Until men start calling out other men's behaviour“ 🙌 2mo
lil1inblue I guess along the same lines, it's also Black Lives Matter until all lives matter! 2mo

TheBookHippie There are no repercussions for being male. Name me a law CURRENTLY that controls men‘s bodies, ability to have a credit card, own property, CHANGE back to your maiden name with out signed permission, etc etc. you cannot be sexist to someone in power. It‘s impossible. White men obviously … but even in other cases the male factor over rides. The government legislates our bodies. So I may be a bit anger biased. 2mo
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 1000000% agree! 2mo

TheBookHippie Human decency has left the building. The wheels are off the bus. Decorum gone. Politically - correctness left awhile ago. I do think it should be decency moral ethical …. Honestly politeness got us here and it needs to stop. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I get the sentiment of it all. It‘s just not being practiced. And I don‘t think it ever was. It was all a long game to get here. But yes if you think of decorum there did use to be politeness. Across the aisle work. 3mo
kspenmoll I agree with @TheBookHippie such politically correctness can be used as a tool to declare how anti whatever someone is. We went thru training years ago at work & those I would consider racist/sexist in certain ways, did not see not see themselves that way at all.Totally believed in their perception.I remember one student calling out US history teacher for not teaching about any indigenous people unless they were warriors scalping whites, or⬇️ 3mo
kspenmoll ⬆️ or women - or black hispanic history except in wars- never got out of the 1950s. He retired a few years ago… Now all that has changed. 3mo

TheBookHippie @kspenmoll YES!!! Great examples! 3mo
GingerAntics @kspenmoll @TheBookHippie yes to both of you. Yes to all of this. We need to stop trying to be polite and stop giving the benefit of the doubt. Take people at their word, because people are being stunningly honest about their intentions and thoughts right now. They‘re saying the quiet part loud and proud. I hate to say these folks need to have their feelings hurt, but they do. Your feelings are harming others in very physical, real, life and death 3mo
GingerAntics @kspenmoll @TheBookHippie ways. Getting just their feelings hurt is fine. We need to stop trying to convince people. We need to stop hoping people will “come around.” We need to be direct. We need to be brutally honest. We need to stop accepting intolerance in the name of acceptance and tolerance. 3mo
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics EXACTLY. Decorum is currently dead. 3mo
