The Dead Zone | Stephen King

I‘m switching between listening to this for #LosersClub and To Say Nothing of the Dog for my #audiowalk. I‘ve read The Dead Zone multiple times but think it might hit differently right now. Nice breeze. For awhile it looked like it might rain but didn‘t since I was prepared with my rain jacket. 😄

BarkingMadRead Omg James Franco is narrating? That‘s epic! 2d
KathyWheeler @BarkingMadRead Yes! He‘s good too. 2d
Reggie Omg, when 2016 happened I actually wished for our own Dead Zone character. But he never came. Actually he did but nothing tarnishes this guy. And most of our people seem to be horrible for voting him. Some Canadian said that one of her favorite things about Canada was that they hadn‘t embraced the anti-intellectual movement that the US had. And I just felt super sad. 13h
KathyWheeler @Reggie I thought about that in 2016 too. 12h

This book is so chaotic! The Vulcan statue with two of my favorite replicas of it. The striped one is in Vulcan Park, while other is in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. #audiowalk

I am laughing more with this book than I did with The Doomsday Book, and I love the references to Three Men in a Boat. My daughter has finals, so we are in Birmingham. It‘s nowhere near as flat as where I live, so some places are more difficult to walk. #audiowalk

Pickpick

There are many things I like about this book including the questions about human nature, religion, and monstrosity that it addresses. At first I was annoyed by the fact that Ruth bases her whole idea of a wonderful romance on Twilight, but her world has been severely limited and it was a miracle she found that. The ending was derivative, but it fits the characters. #audiowalk. I started To Say Nothing of the Dog as my next walking book.

FlowerFairy Looks like you had a lovely walk. Grabbed this book recently on Kindle but have yet to start it. 7d

I only have three hours left, and I‘m still not positive who is responsible for some deaths yet. It‘s starting to get warmer again, but I‘m still okay in the low 80s with a breeze. #audiowalk

Well that‘s a proposal to melt a woman‘s heart: “You were always a good girl growing up and didn‘t become a slut. Marry me.” I‘d accept that in a heartbeat. 🙄. I can‘t stand most of the people in this town. Ruth and Everett keep making some pretty questionable choices. It started raining while I was walking; luckily, I‘d brought my rain jacket. #audiowalk

I really liked This Book Will Bury Me, so I thought I‘d try another Winstead book. This one was appealing to me for more than just the title (which is still a good one). I like the setting— south Louisiana — too. I used to live in Central LA, and I went to LSU. So far, I‘m liking this book a lot, although I dislike a lot of the power figures in the town. #audiowalk

Pickpick

This is the lower end of the pick scale for me. I really wanted for all the Queens to be clearly depicted, but only Christie and Sayers have pretty distinct personalities. Marsh and Allingham were only distinguishable from each other by Marsh‘s New Zealand accent and their respective clothing styles. The book was also a bit slow paced in the first half but picked up later. #audiowalk

wanderinglynn Looks like a lovely walk 🌼💛 2w
KathyWheeler @wanderinglynn It was. I‘m still amazed at how pretty they‘ve made this campus. When I first interviewed here, it was the ugliest college campus I‘d ever been on. 2w

I‘ve only read a couple of Dorothy Sayers‘ books and don‘t know much about her, so it‘s interesting listening to a book with her as the main character, with Agatha Christie, Baroness Emma Orczy (The Scarlet Pimpernel), Ngaio Marsh, and Margery Allingham as sidekicks. I‘ve read at least one book by all of them except Allingham. Beautiful day for a #audiowalk.

I really liked the way Cooper mixes the political and personal in this book. As a white woman, she made me rethink some encounters I had in my 20s; that was interesting. I loved her section about theology for grown women. Cooper also does an excellent job narrating the audiobook; I may go back and read it in print. #SheSaid #audiowalk
