This is the third book in the 'Susan Ryland“ mystery series and although I think it is better for having read the first two, it can be read as a stand alone. The series features a Susan, a book editor, and there is a book set in 1955 that she is editing within the book...effectively giving us two mysteries. I really enjoyed it and think it was my favorite. Note that there are a lot of characters to track. Thanks to Edelweiss+ for the ARC. 4.5/5
Third book in the Magpie Murders series.
Susan is back in London. She's fed up with the Atticus Pünd novels. Twice she's been close to death because of them already. And now there is a new Atticus Pünd manuscript, a continuation novel by Eliot Grace. Well, a tiny peak at the first part of the manuscript can't hurt. Right?
I enjoyed this, but somehow both denouements did not come as a surprise.

The Atticus Punt section of the book has picked up and is not quite so draggy now. I‘m still only about halfway through though. #audiowalk. The breeze was wonderful today.
Short walk today so I didn‘t get much listening in. I‘m still not sure how I feel about this novel, but I‘ve still got some time to figure it out. #audiowalk
Continued with the tagged book on my #audiowalk. I think I like the Hawthorne and Horowitz series better, but this one is decent too.
The Atticus Punt sections of this novel seem a bit draggy to me. I don‘t remember that being the case in the other two books in this series. #audiowalk
Just as I needed to pick a new #audiowalk book, my library hold on Marble Hall Murders came in, so I started it. Short walk today.

The present day story takes place in London, England while the “fictional” story within a story is set on the Côte d‘Azure. Super fun, these books are like brain candy for me. I like reading them but have no memory of the story a mere few weeks later. ?
An exceptional crime novel, and Horowitz‘s talent as a mystery writer is truly remarkable. A novel within a novel. I can only fathom the immense challenge of simultaneously crafting two novels and seamlessly weaving them together. Susan Ryeland‘s character is a strong, independent woman with realistic vulnerabilities, making her a compelling and relatable protagonist.

Crete 2025 holiday reading
TDS - typical boys own adventure from Clives son
MHM - 3rd outing for Susan Ryland and an Atticus Pund 'continuation“ novel. Clever book in a book novel. Part figured it out.
TGP - ok RomCom, inspired by the film Big
TW - OK Crime. Just.
Clever. Entertaining. A long read but worth it. Heavy book hard to read in bed. 😊. Soon to be tv series. Follow on from Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders , also TV series. Such a prolific writer. A wonder.
This book comes out in May ‘25 and if you‘ve enjoyed the other two books in this series, you‘ll enjoy this one too! Just as an fyi, there is a note at the beginning stating that this is a stand-alone novel BUT the solution to ‘Magpie Murders‘ (Book 1) is revealed. I really appreciated not having to re-read the previous 2 books, Horowitz provides background on everything so no recap is needed 👍 You can just dive in!
LOL! I love when you read a book and you find a little bread crumb from a recently read book 😂 I get this reference now, but definitely wouldn‘t have a month ago #christiecapers @Librarybelle
