Thanks for the #BAndBDay (Book and Beverage Day) tag @TheSpineView 🤗

I woke up earlier with a bad headache & now I‘m tucked in on the couch with green tea and the Pride and Prejudice 1995 series on. Hoping the tea & Excedrin (& Colin Firth) work their magic so I can continue with this book that needs to go back to the library soon, but if not there‘s nothing wrong with a BAndB & PAndP Day! 😉

Ruthiella The medicinal properties of Colin Firth! 👍 Hope you feel better soon. ❤️ 2w

It's well established in the book that Mrs Bennett was a beauty "in her youth" so this illustration made me laugh. At the time of the novel she'd likely be 45 at most (probably closer to 40) yet this artist chose to make her look a great deal older. ?

KadaGul I think 🤔 at the time, 40 seemed like 90🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 1mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm really noticing now that at 58 I'm older than all the 'old' characters. 😄 1mo
bookandbedandtea @KadaGul Right! I used to think it was due to the lower life expectancy but then I learned that number is due to the high rate of childhood death. Once a person reached adulthood there was every reason to think they'd live into old age so the view of people Mrs Bennet's age being old still strikes me as weird. 🤔 1mo
bookandbedandtea @Crinoline_Laphroaig Same! I'm 56 and it's always a bit of a shock to realize that some old person in a book is a good deal younger than I am! 🤦‍♀️😆 1mo

As soon as I finish listening to The Simarillion, this will be my next audiobook. Tom Baker wrote AND recorded it, and I've only heard good things.

I've been re-watching a lot of Dr. Who lately. New and old. I'm also going to listen to the tagged book after my current audiobook. And I might have also ordered a copy from ebay. If you press the button on K-9's back he says "Affirmative Master".

Pickpick

This is 5 short stories set in the world of Dr. Who with River Song. (I absolutely love Alex Kingston in this role btw.) Overall I enjoyed this a lot. However, one of them almost immediately felt like it was written by a man. Spoiler alert, it was. Which was unfortunate because it was a great premise. It was still a fun book though.

Getting a flat tire yesterday, at an inconvenient time, means new tires today. It hurts the wallet, but at least it is doable. I'm aware that not everyone has that privilege. And it does give me some reading time.

Mehso-so

A high So-So verging on low Pick. For the most part, Leela, who narrates most of the chapters, is rendered well, but her knowledge of sailing ships is not plausible to me (those bits felt like “research“). I also found the story was told just enough out of order to be disorienting chronologically.
