Don't Cry for Me | Daniel Black
post image
Pickpick

Daniel Black put into words the weight black men and women carry, the burden to conform to strict gender roles, and the fear that is felt when someone steps outside of those roles. He also shows the hope for freedom from this burden and fear. #blitsy #lgbtq #queer #family #epistolary

Finally caught up to the second book in my #BLITSY package from February! Thanks @Chrissyreadit 💗
I was sure abt this book at the beginning bc it was just so bleak and heart wrenching, but it picks up quick. It doesn‘t necessarily get happy but many aspects of it feel relatable and relevant and remind you that life can be so so weird even when things seem mundane.
Also, what a beautiful cover- very worth having a copy ✨

Although the nonlinear timeline led to a bit of confusion I was throughly engrossed in Clementime‘s memoir. I knew broad strokes of the Rwandan genocide this brought the brutality into sharp focus. The strength that she and her sister had is beyond comprehension. This was a swap gift from #Blitsy 2022 from @j9brown Thank you Jeannine!

Lovely, slow fiction that could very well be real. Nice low key commentary on family, culture, queerness, and grief. I was a bit indifferent in the beginning but once you make it past half way the characters rly grow on you.

This was one of my gifts from @Chrissyreadit for the Black History Month Swap 2023 organized by @Chelleo 💗 thank you both 😘 if you haven‘t participated on this one yet, watch out for the next one! #BLITSY

If you love hip hop this is a must read! Be warned it‘s a BAB (big ass book) but it‘s a great, detailed walk down memory lane for those of us that have hip hop as our life‘s soundtrack. #Blitsy

The_Book_Ninja Have you read Hip Hop America by Nelson George? I read it in ‘99 and there was more history yet to be made in Rap and Hip Hop but it‘s such a good read for a look at rap up to that time 2y
Chelleo @The_Book_Ninja I‘ve read George but I‘m pretty sure I have not read that. Will check it out! 2y
The_Book_Ninja @Chelleo cool! Well great review, Just ordered this book. Thank you 2y

My #BLITSY match already knows this but… I bought her a book and read it before sending the package 😬 is that bad book-etiquette? I‘m not sure, it felt kinda wrong but it also felt so right bc this was rly good!!! 😅

all_4_kb It‘s right ! A used book is a more seasoned book. Makes the gift even better and more …. Personalized. 2y
Nalbuque @kbibliophilific yesss! That‘s what I was going for 😆 I agree tho! Who doesn‘t love an used book? 2y
SamAnne And such a great book! 2y

Thanks again, @Readergrrl ! The new poster looks great at school! It is so cool to see the people chosen for the periodic table spots and fits right in with our motif. 💗 #Blitsy @Chelleo

Readergrrl That looks great!! I have a teacher friend who made the whole table using laminated colored 8x11 paper. She then posted it on the wall outside her classroom. Students could lift each page for a photo and brief bio of the person listed on the front. Very cool! It took her a long time to make, but now that it‘s all laminated, she just needs to tape them up in the table format each February. 2y
