Pickpick

I just finished listening to the latest installment in the Book Retreat mystery series by Ellery Adams. This book had some major twists and turns! From the beginning to the end, this book kept me guessing and now has me looking forward to the next one to see what's going to happen 😁 #BookBooks #CozyMystery #AudioBookCommuting

Slow burn doesn't begin to describe this one for me. It took me over halfway through before I felt really invested in the story and characters. If I subscribed to the "give it 50 pages" school, I would have put this in the DNF pile. I'm really glad I stayed with it. Bonus: I loved the "book about books" aspect that I haven't seen get any mentions. #BOTM ????

Reviewsbylola I've yet to DNF a BOTM selection. This wasn't my favorite. Something about the characters never quite clicked for me, which is a shame because I typically love stories about marriage. 7y
Lola @Reviewsbylola Marriage, and family lit fiction generally, are right up my alley. Fates and Furies was one of my favorite reads of 2015. With this one, it took way too long for the tide (sorry, couldn't resist) to whisk me away. I kept reading but it was just this side of a slog until I was well past the halfway mark. That's just too long. Opposite effect from this one, which I just started 7y
Reviewsbylola I actually also disliked F&F, although that one was 100% the writing style. I just didn't care for it. I still need to read The Nix. 7y

Lola @Reviewsbylola I was wondering whether F&F was a hit or miss for you 😛Reading that book was like a fever dream for me-I started reading and didn't stop until I got to the last page, at which point I went right back to page one and reread the first few chapters, but I know it wasn't everyone's cuppa. The Nix has lived to see another day in the #TOB17 so I thought it was a good time to finally pick it up. I've had the ARC since May 🙃 7y
Reviewsbylola My whole family read F&F and most of them didn't care for it but @emilyhaldi LOVED it and gave it five stars! Pretty much the only reason I haven't read The Nix yet is the length. 7y
Lola @Reviewsbylola That's exactly what's held me back, but I did pledge to read some of my #bookbooks this year. And this one actually falls 60 pages short of the #bookbooks17 bar I set for myself in January (I might count it anyway...😉) 7y
