Bag #2 of Botanical Gardens. I LOVE Ali Smith ❤️ and I love this book! Written in 2016 the divisiveness of Britain is reflective of the US right now, the art talk fed into my obsession with Mona‘s Eyes, and the relationship between young Elisabeth and old Daniel creating a bridge between generations ❤️❤️❤️ I can‘t wait to listen to the next 3 in this quartet

TheBookHippie I just started the book! 2w

I‘ve been waiting forever for this audio book and to start this massive Lego set - both are spectacular

Sparklemn I‘ve had this sitting on my shelf for a while now. Looking forward to your review. 2w
mcctrish @Sparklemn I have almost bought this 4 part story collection so many times - I love Ali Smith - I am loving the audio but the words are glorious and I wish I could slow down and read them over a few times at some points 2w
Hooked_on_books I have this set! It‘s a lot of fun to put together. 2w

Book no 1 from my #10beforetheend picks.

This was gearing up to be a pick but I found a couple of the latter chapters sketchy and sadly lacking. Still enjoyed the earlier chapters on media moguls which is clearly where O'Brien has the most knowledge and experience

@ChaoticMissAdventures

Cuilin I don‘t know much about him but I‘ve seen him push callers on his show to answer questions. I think he‘s got good journalistic integrity. He also doesn‘t let politicians get away with not answering the question. If only all journalists did this. 13mo
Balibee146 @Cuilin yeah he has done some good work holding politicians feet to the fire... Though my fab is still Eddie "you're a nasty price of work aren't you?" Mair.I have more of a ? around O'Brien after he remained pretty silent during the Sangita Myska situation at LBC.. But there was a lot to like here. 13mo
Balibee146 Typo hell lol *fav and also *nasty piece of work... 13mo

Luke-XVX He‘s well informed but so bloody smug at times.I did enjoy him trashing Farage on air recently, I laughed my arse off 13mo
Balibee146 @Luke-XVX there's a transcript in the book of an old clash between him and Farage which is rather satisfying. 13mo
Luke-XVX That‘ll do it!! 13mo

Starting a bit of non fiction... Not expecting any new revelations I wasn't aware of but sure having it synthesised into one place is going to get me #raging

Part of my #10beforetheend list so I may be a little early but wanting some non fiction on #kindle today, as it is so dark and dreary here today.

@ChaoticMissAdventures

ChaoticMissAdventures Dark money and politics, seems to be happening so many places, that and old politicians who refuse to give up power. This sounds interesting! Good job getting a jump start. 13mo

For me, Ali Smith's books try too hard to be too many things, making each aspect feel dilute.

There are moments of genius throughout Autumn, but the structure is so ad hoc, that we lose impact.

We have a neighbourly love story, some unsubtle thoughts about Brexit and bureaucracy that resonate (albeit in a heavy-handed way), and some info about Pauline Boty.

All very interesting, but the lack of cohesiveness in the narrative frustrated me.

I am not a fan of the Johnson family but a friend gave me this to read and I felt I had to at least try and read it ! I then found myself in a position where I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn‘t put it down ! I was not expecting that …. It‘s sort of a spoof on the 2016 Brexit referendum, Russian involvement and USA presidential election - very close to the bone at times and fascinating reading .
