Didn't particularly rate this - I found it to be quite dull and patronising. The idea of putting humans into 1 of 4 categories doesn't make much sense to me...and the author acknowledged that in saying that most people are a combination. But then I question what the book is really saying beyond 'people are different and we should be aware of that'? Not a bad read if you want some advice on how to respond when encountered with certain traits
Imma let Carla sum this one up for me😂 I liked this, but I didn't love it like I loved Happy Days or Krapp's Last Tape; still good though!
This is a great read if you're keen to explore the idea of inner safety for the first time! I've been working on this a lot over the past year through therapy so a lot of it wasn't very new to me, but because of that experience, I can vouch for a lot of this stuff really working🌟
A good'un! Cassandra is such a little gem bless her and her narration made me laugh on more than one occasion😂 Sometimes the plot felt a bit disjointed and oddly paced, and it went on a bit too long for me, but on the whole an enjoyable read! I've loved living in the castle with them all this past week or so
I was so wanting to love this one because the concept that the blurb described was great! It just didn't really go anywhere though and I felt like I was just reading about random fish for the sake of reading about random fish. The message wasn't conveyed remotely subtly or smartly, and while at first I quite liked the prose, it stopped doing anything for me p quickly. I did enjoy learning the occasional dolphin fact
#WomensPrize2023 #longlist
March #BookSpinBingo 🙌 Am not thinking strategically enough to get a line clearly😂 I read the #DoubleSpin for the month too - N. P. 🌟
Just about to write my list for April!!😁 Of course won't look at the bingo board until I have written my list
@TheAromaofBooks
The relationship between the 2 mains in this is fascinating and I'm very much intrigued enough to want to read the rest of the series. Quite repetitive to me in parts but on the whole p good!
I'm on a mission to read all of the Women's Prize for Fiction longlist and 2 of the books arrived for me at my local library yesterday!!
Good! I love a bit of folklore and this did a great job of blurring the lines between that and reality. Also my partner is Greek which made this even more enjoyable for me! Wasn't expecting it to have the storyline it did but I really enjoyed where it went - a gentle exploration of a man struggling with his sexuality in 1920s Cyprus & the impact that has on the people around him, including his pregnant wife
'Get this into your head: light will come and go. When the darkness comes, you make a fire, put on clothes...you protect yourself. You know you'll be cold, you know you won't see well. But then it goes away. The only thing you have to do is remember that it comes back. You get ready for it and face it again. But you know it always goes away again, too. Because the light always comes back, as well.'
Train reading with the chocolate buttons my parents bought me for my journey😊
I like what this book was trying to do, I just...don't think it did it😭 The prose is largely pretty wooden - it doesn't really *show* things/let you deduce them, it just prints in black and white exactly what you're meant to take from the book. So much was left unresolved/not explored in the depth it needed to be & it's disappointing because as I say, I do like the concept!
Have greatly enjoyed being stranded at sea for the past week reading this and I'm gonna have to sit and really think about the ending before I know fully what to make of it😂
Had such a lovely day with a friend today, and we picked up some books! It was nice to recommend some to her as she wants to get back into reading again, and I picked up Bunny because one of my favourite YouTubers ranked it so highly!😊
This just didn't really do it for me plot wise, but lots of the prose was gorgeous! Do look up the trigger warnings before you read this one (particularly suicide)
That's my #DoubleSpin read for this month too!
Didn't mind this! Bit preachy, but some nice quotes to pull out
#MarvellousMarch 3/3 books read! Now I'll just keep reading as much as I can!
A gorgeous little novella, had me observing the world through the eyes of a little boy fascinated by a woman at the convenience store and her bright blue eyelids
#MarvellousMarch 2/3 books finished!
A really good read!! Strengthened my understanding of gender expression/identity tenfold. Also absolutely love that it's inspired by an Old French poem from the 13th century - my degree focused a lot on Lit like this and it really sparked parts of my brain that haven't lit up in a while
1/3 books finished as part of my #MarvellousMarch readathon goal! @Andrew65
My goal is to finish at least 3 books by March 12th to keep me on track for my 100 books in 2023 challenge!
@Andrew65 #MarvellousMarch
7 books read this month! Including my #DoubleSpin for #BookSpinBingo! Still not had a line but there's always next month😂
Thanks as always for running @TheAromaofBooks 🙌
I so wanted to love this!! But the fluidity between all the different stories just didn't quiiiiite click. That said, I still think it's clearly very good and I'd like to reread in the future and give it another go
I loved this; I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did to be honest! Keiko is such a lush character - I really valued getting a little insight into her brain & she is the most perfect convenience store woman
Oooo it's another goodie! I think I liked The Idiot more but this is a very close 2nd. I don't want to spoil anything but I looooved the endings of the 2 books together. Also *need* a 3rd and 4th, come on Elif, get cracking
Finally getting the chance to read some of this!❤️ #FabulousFebruaryReadathon
Book hall!!!! Thank you to @Emilymdxn for The Story of Silence (and other book recs)🥰
#FabulousFebruaryReadathon
The prose in this is so gorgeous and fresh, and I really loved the first story. I didn't warm to the second quite as much but it was still good
#FabulousFebruaryReadathon
I quite enjoyed this in the end. It's quite on the nose in its exploration of various ideas, but on the whole not bad. And the whole language thing is v clever
#FabulousFebruaryReadathon
I can't believe that this is the last (released) volume!! I need #5 now!!! @MatchlessMarie
#FabulousFebruaryReadathon
Spoiler alert - I remain obsessed!!! @MatchlessMarie
@Andrew65 #FabulousFebruaryReadathon (Goal: Read loads!!)
My January #BookSpinBingo board!! 10 books read in January!
I read my January #BookSpin too😁
I've been sick these last couple of days but I'm just putting together my Feb board now😍
@TheAromaofBooks
I quite enjoyed this one!! The characters really carried it for me - what a lovely bunch
