So, my Brother did a DNA test to see our heritage, and we knew we were Irish, but he did a lot of genetic markers for it. Scottish, German, and English are all pretty recent and the closest behind the Irish percentage, but the further back the genetic markers, the less we have of anything except Irish. These are the furthest it goes^. All Irish. Now we just need to get My Husband's done and then our Daughter's. #family #Irish #DNA #CelticWoman

Neverlistless That's so cool! What company did he use?? 8y
Theresa I did my DNA through Ancestry.com a few years ago. It confirmed what the genealogy research I've been working on for the past 10 years already hinted at - I am one of the least diverse, pasty-est white women around. Not even an ounce of anything non-European. How boring!! 8y
Raz I keep wishing they would run DB Cooper's DNA through ancestry.com or 23andme.com to see if it turns up any relatives. Supposedly they got DNA all those years ago but didn't really have a way to do much with it back then. 8y

TeR I had my mom do 23&me. All Scottish Scottish Scottish... 8y
sherrynuts I did mine through ancestry.com too and also got a report that said least diverse whitest white European. 😑 8y
Suzze Very cool. I want to get mine done. I only have one picture of my fraternal grandmother, who died before I was born. I look very much like her. She was born in Ireland, and at some point came to Canada. #wannaknowmore 8y
EmilyChristine I did ancestry.com. Very much European though my uncle was surprised there was no Native American because half our family is French Canadian. Interesting test. Fun to find out the genetics of research you've done. 8y
bookishkai I want to get mine done, and my mother has talked about doing hers, too. From my dad I get a smattering of English, Danish, and Welsh, but my mom's family is Portuguese, and I'm interested in those genes . . . The Portuguese travelled all over Europe, Africa, and Asia, and I suspect my mom has some interesting ancestry. 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Neverlistless he actually used a company that is owned by our family in Ireland. The O'Donoghue Society. We originally were just doing genealogy and we have uncovered our family tree all the way back to some of the first Donaghues. We actually discovered that we in our family are more closely related to the ancient ones than the ones in Ireland lol really cool. Our family was actually associated with royalty back in tribal Ireland. 😊 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Theresa We have a few spatterings, but mostly U.K. Celts, and a little bit of German Celts. I want to do mine via Ancestry.com to have an even bigger database. One day! 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Raz how awesome would that be??? @TeR That was probably tied in second with English for us. Scotland will still always be the Home@of my Heart, though 😊 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @sherrynuts haha heritage is important, even if not as diverse as we would like. It is always better when you can visit your place of origin. I was able to go see a place where our family has its own legend. It was really fun to be in a place where our ancestor was said to be so just and only those worthy could see his ghost return on May Day. I will have to go back on May Day in the future ;) 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Suzze it is worth it because they are always updating as they get more info. Pictures of family are the best. I always print them out so my Daughter will have physical copies to hold. 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @EmilyChristine I want to get my Mother's side done to really have a good DNA map, but I will get My Daughter's done first. ;) it is a lot of fun doing this, though! 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @bookishkris oooh, I bet that would be SUCH a fun map to figure out. Lots of history and culture. If you do it, definitely post! I would love to see 😊 8y
Lizpixie Ooh I've been wanting to do mine! I've done my family on ancestry.com.au & from what I've found I'm Scottish,English & a bit of Swedish, but there's two strands I've been unable to trace, one of which I'm pretty sure is aboriginal, they're were no formal records kept of indigenous Australians seventy years ago. 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Lizpixie That is awesome, if it is! What do you suppose the other strand is? We don't have any mysteries lol very straightforward, but while it is not a fun quest to discover for us, it is fun to revisit the history since we do have it. I bet if you did do a search you would have such a blast, though, going through all the possible records down each familial branch in your tree. Do y'all have a records department locally where you are? 8y
EmilyChristine Luckily the library where I work has ancestry.com provided by our Friends of the Library. I could spend hours looking at records. So much fun! 8y
Laalaleighh @BooksTeasAndBookishThings I want to do this so badly! Although I'm pretty sure it's Scots all the way down. 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @EmilyChristine Librarian perks are already great, but that is really awesome!!! Books, book people, and records? That would be so much fun, how do you get any work done? I would totally put off my work lol 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Laalaleighh It is so awesome to see, even though I knew the Irish part. I was surprised by how much Scottish we have, but it makes me happy, because Scotland is the Home of My Heart! ❤️ 8y
Laalaleighh @BooksTeasAndBookishThings I've never been but have always considered just picking up and moving there! 8y
EmilyChristine @BooksTeasAndBookishThings It's a great job! And the people are awesome. I definitely wish I could spend more of my day reading but I do get to spend a lot time ordering books for the library. Which also leads to more books on my to-read list. 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Laalaleighh if you ever go, Glencoe is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Isle of Skye is, too, but Glencoe is where my heart is! I can't explain it, but when I first stepped FOOT in Glencoe, it was like time slipped through a mirror and my blood was answering a call that I never knew was beckoning me. I miss it so much, and I want to move there when Blake gets out of the Army at some point! *sigh* 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @EmilyChristine between that and Litsy, your TBR must be nuts!!! Lol 8y
kammartinez This'd be really interesting to do in my case and the case of my family. The thing about being from the Philippines is that my genetic background could be from literally ANYWHERE XD. Aside from the Filipino genes I know there's a smattering of Mexican and Chinese in my background based on archival research, but it's be interesting to see what else is in there XD. 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @kammartinez see, I have barely anything besides Celtic origins! It would be so fun to do a search for all over, and see all the cultures involved in my history, but... At least the Celts were a lovely bunch, right? If you ever do, definitely post. I find it all so fascinating! 😊🙌 8y
Hobbinol I have worked in a library's genealogical collection for many years and I can't encourage my fellow readers enough to explore their own ancestries. Eventually you will disappear into a world of dusty ledgers and hidden histories. Once you find the paths of your ancestors and how they experienced world events, your reading of other books will be enhanced by the wisdom of your elders. Libraries are magical places. 8y
tpixie @Hobbinol ❤️📚 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Hobbinol They really are! I agree for sure, and want to do as much as I can so our kids will be all set and have the info for their kids. 😊🎉 8y
MrBook Interesting. I should do this. But I already know I'm a Western European mutt. 😊 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @MrBook I was surprised at the percentage of others, but still nice to see for sure exactly how Irish I am lol 8y
