I know there are a lot negative reviews on here about this one, but I loved it! I was pulled in by the characters and ideas. My first Cory Doctorow book, so I‘m definitely going to be checking out more of his stuff. Finished on the road trip back home CO —> NE, through the snow and hopefully no closed interstate systems. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I seem to be the only one who doesn't love this book. I don't think I'm going to be able to finish before it's due back. I don't like the author and I'm struggling to get past her to the ideas that made me pick up the book.

This was a random pick-up in the library, so I didn't have high expectations since I'd never heard anyone mention the title or author. It was amazing though! I love the world Scalzi has built and the characters he's created. I didn't realize this was a follow-up book, but now I get to go back and read the first one and couldn't be happier! 😍

wanderinglynn I love Scalzi! My first Scalzi was Redshirts, which played on the old Star Trek redshirt joke. I‘ve now read several of his books & this one is on my TBR! 👍🏻❤️ 6y
sherrynuts @wanderinglynn I hope you enjoy it! I'm going to put all of his books on hold at the library now, starting with Lock In. 😁 6y

Happy Friday!
1. I haven't read a book series in so long. Maybe His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman? If comics count, then I Hate Fairyland, Bitch Planet, Locke & Key, Paper Girls, and Motor Crush 😁
2. Younger #TeamCharles
3. I live in Omaha, so sometimes I'll go to a game with family/friends. No to watching it on tv.
4. Ice Cream Cake from DQ. Yes it counts as a meal. 🎂
5. Yes, but only magazines and newspapers.

I tried to like the book. I WANTED to love the book. I enjoyed the world building Yoss did, but it wasn't enough to make up for the main character or the treatment of women. Also-obviously not the authors fault-but I guess I missed half the jokes because of my lack of Spanish and knowledge of Cuban culture.

Having trouble getting into this one. I'm not enjoying the writing or the characters so far. Sometimes I can't remember which character I'm reading; for two very different characters that's a problem. Not sure yet if the book is not my cup of tea or if I need something different right now.

Hazel0303 I had the same issue (getting Lucy and Alice mixed up) and I couldn‘t figure out why! Glad I‘m not alone. 6y

I love the idea for this book. We get to see how a shared sleep-away camp experience plays out differently into each girls future. The story was so well written that I read way past my bedtime. I do wish I had a bit more story on some of the girls, but I recommend this one. I think I'll add it to my re-read.

I really enjoyed this one! YA science fiction where most everyone's brain is wired directly to the internet. The MC's were pretty luck-ass. And I didn't hate reading on a screen. I picked a fast-paced, easy read to test out reading on a kindle before I bought one. Checking books out from my library is clunky and involves too many steps, but reading the book was easy and the paper-white never seemed to strain my eyes.

This was...ok...I guess. Maybe I'm still processing? Part 1 seemed slow, Part 2 had me hooked and Part 3 just ended. I enjoyed that the book was told as journal entries from Cedar to her baby and how she explored her identity to and with the baby, but I think the lack of answers and the abrupt ending just killed it for me.

While I can't say that I enjoyed reading this book, I can say I don't regret reading it. The MC is awful-manipulative and self centered-but the book wouldn't have had the same impact if you liked her. It makes important points about a tough subject. It was a little slow to start, but I do recommend if you think you can handle the topic of rape.

Pickpick

This one has been on my TBR pile for a long time and I think I originally picked it up because a Litten recommended it. I needed something lighter after Five Chimneys and it delivered. Fluffy and fun with some good lines, but it lacked fully developed characters. I think it would make a good movie or mini series if they put some time into character development.

I just finished this 4 part series from BOOM! Studios and it's so fun! All the men are eaten by dragons and so the ladies have to step up and run the town-not that they weren't already. The singing princess parts were hilarious. I wasn't sure what one of the songs was a riff of though. Takes some tired tropes and makes fun of them and leaves you with warm fuzzies. 😄 I do wish it would have continued and had more backstory to some characters.

This book is maddening! The Circlers are so group-minded and "pics or it didn't happen" and they all either talk over Mae or patronize her. ? Oh, and they are all WAY too sensitive.
"You like kayaking? Why didn't tell me?!" ?
