The Beach Club: A Novel | Elin Hilderbrand

Pickpick

For several years I wanted too visit EH where her Nantucket series began. But when older books are not on my physical shelves it‘s hard to pull them from my TBR. I was thrilled when my June #DoubleSpin challenged me with category: Ebook TBR. Some of this 2000 contemporary writing doesn‘t quite work as contemporary fiction 25 years later, but still it was a fun to read the book where the Nantucket series began.

I thought this was a romance when I picked it up. The premise was a bit out there, with Barbara inadvertently making a deal with the devil, and overnight going from gray hair, overweight, double chin, and meek to a slim blonde assertive beauty with the power to make bad things happen to others. It got so ridiculous I thought about DNFing. But I persevered, and suddenly there was some romance, and then the last quarter got really good.

June 11, 2025 I would say that I picked up the book multiple times. I did not sit down for a long time to read it. That saying, I would give the book 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. It did kind of remind me of Daisy Jones and the Six because it had a lot of songs and music relates terms within the text but it wasnt page turning or gripping for me.
